Which are the pros/cons/tips to make it run better?

I never had an ssd before (well.. the 2gb from the eee700 a while ago but it doesnt count for me :p)
    Thank you in advance!

Windows 7 has tweaks to make it run better on a ssd. XP does not. See here.

Unfortunately, your getting a 1st Gen Intel, so you won't get to have Trim support, which helps extend the ssd's life.

Here, here, and here are good explanation of TRIM.

Interesting that you immediately exclude Vista from that list.
I'd say just run Vista until 7 becomes available in retail, then use your free Windows 7 upgrade.

While those models may be Gen 1 for now, hopefully the Gen 2 will likely be found in October when Windows 7 comes on the models as well.

So my assumption is that all models with Windows 7 will be Gen 2 SSD and we will see if this HOPEFULLY Holds water.

There is no reason for Timeline's not to have SSD Gen 2 Intel + Windows 7. Just none.

I wonder if the entire inventory of this Acer deal which is newegg only is all Gen 1 Intel and that Acer just decided to throw in Gen 1 intel's in all of them.

When Windows 7 comes out, I assume the configuations will be different and by that time one will get Windows 7 and the Gen 2 SSD since all new units will be preconfigured with Windows 7 from the getgo.

Acer reduces 14- and 15-inch ultra-thin notebook orders, says paper.

Looks like as expected the 13" Timeline is their bread and butter.

The manufacturer's date on my laptop is ~June 25th. Plenty of reason why they used Intel Gen I and not Gen II.

I more wonder why they took so long to come out with the laptops with the SSD in the first place.

I was going to get that model but couldnt justify the cost. 200 bucks more and you could have a new refurbished macbook pro or air- Both with similar battery life but specs that blow it away.

I think the 550$ su3500 is a fantastic deal though (and will prob buy one) although I will be jealous of your setup :)

Retail channel laptops are completely different than BTO models. The companies decide what to put in retail laptops months before the laptop starts mass production unlike BTO options where new hardware can be added as it becomes available. Because of this the odds of seeing a G2 drive in the current version of the Timeline's is almost next to none. You might see them in a future revision 6 months from now but not in the current machines.
