    Hello,
my father has an Acer Aspire TimelineX 5830TG, with integrated webcam. He always used it with skype, but recently, after he installed some "Babylon toolbar" software, the webcam disappeared, skype cannot find it, in the device manager nothing shows "yellow warning signs" (that would mean some peripheral is not properly installed) yet the "video capture device" section is missing in the hardware list, and the "check for hardware changes" does nothing.

So either the webcam is broken and is considered offline forever, or it has been "disabled" in some ways. As I do not have the laptop under my eyes, I cannot see if there is a button on the laptop, to physically disable the camera, the same way there is a button to disable the wi-fi card on dell laptops. I suspect something like this. But I'm not sure.

    So:
    a) has anyone encountered a similar problem with a laptop, or specifically an acer laptop (webcam disappears from skype, task manager and everything, without leaving any footprints behind)
    b) is there a specificity to this 5830TG model, linked to the webcam

The OS is windows 7, 64 bits I think.

    Thanks for your help!
