Jus received an email from Amazon indicatiing that the 3820T, 4820T and 5820T are all available. However these 3 only have Intel HD graphics. Looks like a nice laptop. Battery life seems pretty good based on the specs which i kow will be inflated tho'. How is Acer warranty? Also any KB flex in theses timeline x series?

Why does it take so long for Acer to release those TG's in U.S??

Acer assembles the merchandise when they have all the components ready, possibly because they are waiting for the main components to drop in price before releasing the final laptop. I'm not certain of this, its speculation but it may give the US market a cheaper sale, and gives the consumer a better product for a reasonable price. Slimness, CPU+GPU power, lightness, energy efficient with switchable graphics are all pretty new, especially with the parts that is in the TimelineX series.

These btter products with low cost usually sell a lot more especially when it is a innovation in laptops. It also is in a timed schedule for back to school in North America. There's lots of things to take into account on the business side of things. I understand your consumer standpoint, I want it as soon as possible and as affordable as possible too.

I'm not even certain that there will be TG series in the US. I checked the Acer Product site and it doesn't list it there. On the German Acer site, it lists way more models with the dedicated ATI GPU, but with the current Acer US site, its only the i3 and i5 with shared intel gpu. It seems if they only list it on their page when it is physically in the stores in the region of the world. It may get an update from a product specialist on Acer's Facebook page

The 4820TG is listed on the USA product page. It comes in an I3-350M and I5-450M configuration. Starts at $800.

The 3820T will have the i3 and i5 with the shared Intel HD graphics card. I believe the 3820TG is the model with the dedicated ATI graphics card seen in Europe and Asia.

The TG comes with a dedicated video card and graphics can be switched between integrated and dedicated. There are 2 different GPU's being put in the 4820TG, the 5470 and the 5650. The 5650 is by far the more powerful and it is the one slated for the US models.

According to US Acer's website, there is no 5470 model? I'm trying to get the hd5650 model.

I'm really confused because i do not understand why Acer has not released these amazing laptops yet they have all these ads and flyers about them.

There is a 5470 model, just not in the US. In the UK, it is the only dedicated GPU you can get. As far as Acer's reasoning, your guess is as good as anybody's. If you want the HD5650 you need to wait and hope. :D

I would take the time to look thorugh the other threads discussing the TimelineX models. http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/464512-official-arrandale-timeline-thread-362.html

I am not sure if something changed after your post but I do see two TG models on the US Acer website

    AS4820TG-3195 with the i5-450 and HD 5650
AS4820-5637 with the i3 and the HD 5650

From my post #11 above. They have been on the Acer site for a few days. Just none in retailers stores yet.

I have no idea what happened but I suspect I left this page open from yesterday and forgot to submit my response. I was responding to hotwax's post about his uncertainty of the us getting the TG model. Sorry for the confusion.

Just curious - how does the 3820T compare to an x201 from Lenovo?

I've seen lots of people copying the press release, but not much in the way of reviews for these...for obvious reasons :) If I'm mostly concerned with durability, battery life, having lots of browser tabs open, doing lots of typing and very little gaming (i.e. none)...which is going to treat me better?

Sorry for the n00b question :)

I think the X201 has a brighter display (270nit vs 200nit). If you compare comparable CPU's, ram, HD speed, etc., I can't imagine that they are that different in performance. I have a 3820TG on order. It should be here soon. I am also considering an X201T tablet to use more as a field/travel notebook. If I get it, I'll do a comparison review for you. :D

    Thanks Bronsky,

I'm actually more interested in the experience, rather than the specs: is the case going to take a minor beating and come out the other side alive, are they keys anywhere near a thinkpad (I'm currently on an x61s), is the battery life actually close to what they say, etc.

I'd love to see your review when you get it!

Do you mean you have to physically visit Germany to buy one? Or do you know of any sites that can ship it to the US, preferably with a standard English keyboard? Thanks

Buying from the Germans is not for everybody. The OS and keyboard are german and must be swapped. There is some question about the reach of the warranty and whether or not you have to send the unit back to Germany for warranty work. I simply bought the unit assuming all of those risks. There are a few who also did so, but I really discourage it. The 4820TG is now being sold in the US and it looks like the I4-450M will be available soon.

But no, you don't have to go there. Another issue is that the German sellers will only ship via DHL post. :( I've already been waiting 11 days and have no idea where my computer is. :(

    Bronsky

@ELO the 4820TGs are here already at Microcenter. $799 for the I3-350M/HD 5650 and $899 for the I5-450M/HD 5650. Nobody has any idea when the 3820TG/HD 5650 will be coming here. Acer's records do not show any shipping here soon.

How big of a difference is the i3 vs i5? What are the direct competitors to the 3820 and 4820tg pricewize?
