If I have it plugged in it'll just sit there for a long time on the Acer splash screen and eventually just go to the normal HD. I've formatted the flash drive multiple times and I have booted from a USB drive (Albeit a different one)
I'm wondering if maybe I need to update my BIOS or what. I'm a little bit scared of that though because my computer has frozen on me a couple times and I don't want to ruin it by messing up while it's updating BIOS.

Not all USB Drives are bootable... Not saying this is your problem, just throwing that out there.

Oh...That's probably it. I had used my girlfriend's originally to install Windows 7 but couldn't do it with one I bought. This is what I have.
