Got my 5672 at compusa the other day. The sales guy did his best to sell me the warranty for like 275. He even followed me to check out and started to tell me that the Acer is the only computer that they dont work on in house, and he says they have had many problems with people returning them and not being able to get them fixed. I told him why are you selling products for 1200 bucks that you don't believe in... He said I have 21 days to still get the warranty. I also talked to acer directly about the warranty and they said forget about getting the compusa's deal because they have serveral loop holes in the contract. I wasn't planning on getting a warranty at all, but this is a pretty big purchase for me and god forbid something happens. What do you guys think? Did you shell out the extra 275?

I think the Acer's two year warranty extension is $125 on their site which you must purchase within 30 days of getting the notebook. Manufacturer's warranty is usually better than the retailers.

Funny, I just bought the 5672 tonight before the 2 rebates expire and my sales guy was also riding me like a 5 cent lady of the night to buy the 2 year extended warrenty. At first it was $250, but after he talked to his manager, it was "only $199". I Still passed, but I am still not sure if I made the right move or not....
Wait for the ASUS A8Jm or the W3j, or try for s super duper dell with a big coupon......
    The agony....

Just go under the "Accessories" section of Acer notebooks on Newegg and get the 2yr extension for $99.

Oh, I called Acer and got an explanation of the basic and upgraded plans. The upgraded one has accidental protection in there on top of the regular warranty. Here's the catch though: you can use the accidental once per calendar year. Any more than that and you pay $150 deductible. Still, 3yrs of warranty w/accidental damage coverage for ~$189 is very good.

I got the upgraded one, definately worth it, I've found laptops often go wrong at the 1-2 year mark (at least Toshiba laptops I've had).

Others do seem to use homeowners policies, not sure how good or bad they are (my homeowners doesn't cover items as expensive as my laptop because I have cheap homeowners insurance).

Holy smokes. Thanks for that link. Also helps that Page Computers has the best price on the docking station for the 8204.

Does anyone have any details on these Warranties, what's covered and what's not.

I bought an Acer yesterday and bought the store warranty without screen protection. If the Acer Advantage program covers the screen too, then the price is too good to beat and i'll cancel the store one and get the Acers..

Please let me know so I can do it within the time limit..

Acer provides 2 warranties. Both can be purchased directly from acer as long as the 1 year manu warranty is not expired.

$125 = extends manu warranty for 2 more years

$280 = total notebook protection. covers all accidental damage, including screen and is good for 3 years from purchase date OF THE NOTEBOOK.

battery is not covered past the first year under any warranty.
