hello everyone!
since I opened/unscrewed my Acer TravelMate TM8573T to clean the cpu-fan, the touchpad slide and buttons do not work any more.
Before playing around and opening it again, I would like to ensure, if I could have hurt a cable inside.
I can remember, that I had to unplug the keyboard cable + 3 other very small cables to reach the fan.
Could some of this cables be responsible for the touchpad? Or what else could have went wrong?
If a cable is responsible - I'm not sure which calbe is responsible for the pad (its screwed together in a way, I can't see where it runs)
Is there an overview available? I can remember that there was written "MB" on each of this three cable: 1 very small, 2 mid-small (both under the space position) a bigger one (not the keyboard) under the ~ "O" "P" button.
I dont think that I hurt a cable, but a little piece of the "plugin-part?" which is just responsible to fix the cable on the correct position, was just a little bit deformed. I further fixed the plugins with a tape.
thanks in advance!
best regards
Andreas

It is a cable (or rather a ribbon cable) that is responsible for touch-pad working correctly. Try reconnecting it - it's not that easy to do it properly because if it's not all the way in it might not make contact. Another possibility is that the plastic retainer or whatever it's called (plugin part as you've called it) has to work properly - if it doesn't there won't be contact either.
Unfortunately I don't see a service manual for this notebook available so I can't be any more specific. That said it's very hard to damage the ribbon cable so it's almost definitely the matter of connecting it properly. -
thank you, sounds okay!
But does anybody knows about, which ribbon cable is responsible for the pad? As I don't want to damage another one.. or anyway, I would have to try perhaps many times and it's lot of work, as it is screwed togehter very compact.
thanks!

hello,
fixed all of the 3 ribbon cables again and now the tp is working fine again.
I'm not sure which cable was responsible for this, but its ok.
So thank for the support!
best regards

Good to hear. I've had to do the same thing a while back - I could not see anything wrong with the way ribbon was connected but after I reconnected it, it started working fine. Apparently margin for error is very slim with these.
