A few days ago, after I turned my Acer TravelMate 4000 notebook, it gave me the message warning me to plug in the computer a/c adapter or I would lose my data. But the adapter was plugged in.

The computer then powered down, and will not turn on at all. I have followed the steps I found on the Acer website: unplug the adapter, remove the battery, hold down the power button, plug in the adapter only and try starting the computer, then putting the battery in again and seeing if the battery charging indicator lights up. Nothing works.

When the adapter is plugged in, and the battery is in the computer, and I try to power the computer on, the battery indicator light blinks 8 times, then stops. (No beeping)

(When the adapter is plugged in, and the battery is not in the computer, no indicator light blinks when I try to power the computer on.)

It may just be that I need to replace the adapter. From the Acer website or websites linked to it, it appears that the original Acer adapter for this model is not available, and that I'd need to purchase one from another vendor. Or, if the adapter is really the problem, wouldn't I do just as well buying a Kensington universal notebook adapter?

Does anyone have a diagnosis based on what I've set out above, especially the 8 blinks of the battery indicator light?

    Thanks.

I believe i have the same problem.
I left this morning and left my acer aspire 4520 backing up some information. Wheni got home it was dead. I tried turning it on but i would get 8 orange blinks from the battery indicator and nothing. This only happens when the battery is inserted. The power cord doesn't seem to make a difference with or without the battery (the light won't blink if only the ac is plugged in).
I have a paper due tomorrow that i'll have to rewrite unless i find a solution, and so far you are the only one reporting a problem simillar to mine.

I read dozens of forums today, tried every think=g that seemed to work for other problems and still got nothing.

I am loosing my mind here, doesn't anyone have reported the same problem and managed to get out?

I will try to borrow a charged battery and try to make it work in order to copy the paper, but i can't remember any one that has an acer that isn't the aspire one, witch uses a different battery.

    Some one please help me.
