    hi
I wonder if there's any chance of buying Acer TM4001 with Radeon 9700 64 Mb graphics in Canada. They are available here in Europe.

The second issue is shipment cost from Canada to such country like Poland (Eastern Europe). Do you have any ideas how much that would be?

    regards
    score.

From what I've seen, no, there is no option for the 4001 to have an ATI 9700 GPU. The only option would be for the Intel GPU. European/Asian models usually have better specs that what's available in North America.

Shipping costs can be easily obtained by contacting your local courier (UPS, Purolator, FedEX, if available in Poland) and see what it'll cost to ship it internationally/overseas. It'll probably cost quite a bit because of shipping costs, taxes, brokerage fees & custom charges. I'd just recommend getting it from Poland, especially since you have the ATI 9700 option in a 4001.

Just went onto the UPS site and calculated the ship time and cost for a notebook from Canada to Poland. Below is the info I entered:

    Ship from: Canada
    City: Toronto
    Postal Code: M4P 3A2

    Ship To: Poland
    City: Szczecin
    Postal Code: 70-952

    Declared Cost: $2500CDN
    Customs Cost: $2500CDN
    Weight: 8lbs
    Ship Date: Oct 16,2004

With the above info entered, it would cost approx $202CDN using UPS Worldwide Expedited. Delivery time is approx 11 days.

    thx for feedback

Costs seem to be the problem here, because notebooks are much more expensive in Poland. For example:
TM 4001 with IEG2, 15.4" screen and Win XP Home -- ~$1500 CDN.
In Poland it'd cost about 5976 PLZ, which is ~$2165 CDN.
And the only difference is the new Dothan CPU in european notebook.
I think it's pretty much price difference.

But considering shipping rate and customs, it doesn't look that good yet still is a bargain.
The price you calculated doesn't contain customs as UPS site says. I couldn't find out the custom charge, but I guess the overall cost might be more than $300 CDN.

I'm afraid I'll have to reconsider my decision on buying in Canada and check out stores in Germany (at least there would be no taxes or customs since Poland belongs to the UE now...)

Well, you can try hopping over to Canada for a vacation and while you're here, pickup and bring back a notebook. The only issue will be that the 4001 doesn't have an ATI 9700 GPU. You can get a TM4501 or an AS1681 which are similar units, they both have an ATI 9700 GPU. I've heard the 4501 has been/going to be replaced by the 4502/4503 models with faster Dothan CPU's. Possibly Bluetooth integrated into the unit as well. Obviously, it's gonna be more expensive.
