    Can anyone please help?

Until recently, my laptop has weird freezing moments, where the entire keyboard just stops working, but the touchpad still works. Then on the odd occation, applications won't open! I'm thinking, would it be when the laptop gets quite hot?

When I go to restart, it just sits there showing the desktop, but all the icons disappear. Then I get "trying to close explorer" [end now] [cancel]
Pulling the power cable out is the only way to reboot it, and then it's all fine again... Till the next time.

Also, the scroll key between the left and right select buttons below the touchpad doesn't work at all... Occasionally a "report this problem" box will pop up to report the problem to microsoft!
It doesn't work with IE or Firefox, just in the odd exe application.

    Any ideas?

(It's an ACER TravelMate 2420 series if that helps?)

i think your keyboard is being stuck by some keys
Open task manager to check which processes eating memory and cpu
your power supply has problem, return to manufacture for warranty

    how frequently does it happen?

I have an 2428 and i was getting a black screen, but the keyboard and the mouse were still working, so i press FN + F4 (so the computer sleeps, than i wake him up and everything back to normal).

Last week i reinstall (format the entire C:\ unity, pressing ALT + F10 on boot screen), and so far i got no issues. I used to get 2 to 3 crashes a week, this computer is 2 months old only.

I used to use a program to do Undervolt on the processor, so the battery last longer, i give up trying to do that because i think when i did that, the computer freeze and a few files got ****ed up so thats why i was getting freezes.

If you need any help to try to format, get me on msn: [email protected]

    good luck, later

I don't think it's cause any keys get stuck! If that was the case, then some of the keys would still work.
If none of the keys won't do anything, then how can I open Task Manager?
Just cause I said I pull the power cable out to reboot, doesn't mean that there's a problem with the power supply! :p

It isn't a regular thing, probably every few weeks, but not like a scheduled thing, luckily.
I would do that, but not if my keys arent working at the time!
All I can try is, "start --> turn off computer --> standby", but what with the computer being all slow... I doubt it'll do it! (I know "shutdown" and "restart" doesn't!) :confused2:

Thank you anyway, but I know how to format, I'm trying to avoid having to do that... maybe that's the only way to solve the problem! :(

I had an idea, but you would have to try to see if thats the problem.

Try to set you processor to maximum speed (disable dynamic switching or anything like that), leave your computer connected with the AC Plug for 3 days, see if it crashes.

I just talked with another guy that was having freezes on his laptop (not an Acer), but with Pentium M processor, and that may have some result but you need to try.

    good luck, bye

Install something like NHC and let us know the temps of cpu and hard drive, especially when it's having that problem.
