I don't know much about dual-core processor performance, so I'm wondering which of these will be better in the long run. Both newegg.com and buy.com have them both for the same price, so it's an argue of features. Both are nearly identical except for these features (I may forget a few; the link below will show you the full specs of both):
Travelmate:
2.0 GHz Pentium M 760
1 GB RAM 533 MHz DDR2 RAM
100 GB 5400 rpm HDD
ATI x700 128MB
15.4" WSXGA TFT display (max 1680x1050)
Aspire:
1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo T2300
2 GB 677 MHz PC4200 RAM DDR2 RAM
120 GB 5400 rpm HDD
ATI x1600 128 MB
15.4" WXGA display (max 1280x800)

As for the video in, buy.com's ( Aspire link on buy.com: http://www.buy.com/prod/Acer_Aspire...uo_Mobile_Technology/q/loc/101/202166285.html ) link for the Aspire claims it has an S-Video in, but does not have one for the Travelmate (Travelmate link on buy.com: http://www.buy.com/prod/acer_travel...PageFormat/40/imgNum/2/201980462.html#moreimg ). I would like to use it for TV, even if I have to buy a separate tuner, but that is not the most important thing: I want the ability to play high-end games that will be coming out in the future, and this is the TOP end of my budget. Both units come with XP Pro and the DVD "superdrive," and any other features I can't think about right now. The Travelmate definitely comes out on top with that display, and I've heard a lot of gripes in the main Aspire thread about difficulty viewing the screen in well-lit conditions, while I've heard none about the Travelmate.
I suppose the main question is: is the Core duo really better for SINGLE applications when it's running at 1.66 as opposed to 2.0 GHz? I can always add more RAM or storage space, but upgrading to a better graphics card like the x700 (which IS better than the x1400, right? I'm out of the mobile loop) or getting a new CPU is basically impossible: I want a computer I won't want to replace in a year or two.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

One more thing: I suppose it should be worth noting this site's current $650 coupon on $2k+ E1705 Inspiron notebooks, meaning I can get a dual-core 1.83 GHz with a 256 MB NVidia GeForce Go 7800 and a 17" UXGA display for basically the same price. Granted, to keep it at that price level I would have to sacrifice some storage and RAM, but that is arbitrary IMO considering the fact that such can always be upgraded. Note: this configuration includes XP Media Center Ed. 2k5 instead of Pro, but I added the TV Tuner and remote, so the price to switch over to Pro would be basically the same. I've also wondered about the pros/cons between XP Pro and MCE: can any of you help with this also?
Thanks again!
