Hi,
I bought a 2450 and the keyboard, touchpad and usb ports are all not working. I did some reading and someone had said that a reset could fix this problem, he said it was a problem with Acers bios. I'm trying to find where to jumper it, i read that you jumper J3 that is around the memory. I did that and don't think it reset, i figured the bios would give me a time warning or some sort of setting's warning. I thought i should see if anyone knows the procedure. Otherwise im thinking about cutting the lead to the top terminal and soldering in a jumper (which i don't want to do).
Any help would be appreciated Thanks.

Install the original OS from the recovery disks .
Bios has nothing to do with such issues . -
How does that work? The keyboard doesn't funtion on the Acer loading screen well before the O/S begins to load. Keyboard support is built into the Bios. So i don't know how getting the original restore is gonna help. If the the Restore disc requires input from the user it wouldn't even possible to install until i figure out some way to get a keyboard to work.

I figured out how to reset the bios. Didn't fix it. Im working on way to get a fresh install of xp on it and getting a external keyboard to funtion at least. Anyway, if anyone is interested in how to reset it, you need to short J1OPEN under the memory for like 30 seconds without the powersupply and battery. I just used a small piece of tin foil since there flat contacts.

Well i came across something else which im not going to do until i decide i need to replace it. It Seem's the Ati southbridge on the 5100's tend to lose connection and cause the exact issue im seeing. I believe the 2450 and the 5100 share the same board minus the processor used. The fix that some have done is to heat it up and Attempt to reflow the solder, theres some youtube videos of people doing it. Same type of fix people do on xbox 360s and dv series hp's when the gpu loses contact. I'll break out the heat gun as soon as i exhaust all other options.

I fixed the problem i went ahead and went through the scary reflow process on the southbridge. I put it back together crossed my fingers and turned it on. Keyboard, USB and touchpad all work now.

Hello,
You say you found a way to reset the bios from the 2450.
Maybe you want to share it.
I can't get in also...
Thanks in advance...

Same problem here on the Acer 2450. Keyboard, touchpad, and USB ports all stopped working. Still boots into Win XP, but the ports seem shot, going to try the heatgun method to reflow the solder on the southbridge as mentioned above, will post back if it works!
