Ok, I'm really stumped on this one. I installed some patch on my video editing software, and somehow, all the stock Windows sounds went AWOL. I tried un-installing the offending software, but no luck. Now every time the laptop wants to tell me something, I get that really loud, annoying PC beep. All audio is working fine in all other programs- plays music, movies, captures audio, games- etc. I know I can mute the PC beep as a short term solution, but does anybody have a clue how to fix this or how it even happened?

instead of MUTING the PC BEEP,, i have mine totally UNCHECKED..

right click the black speaker icon, choose options, then properties, and un-check PC BEEP...

now the only time i hear that beep is as a warning of low battery or maybe if CPU temps get too high (never happend, so i'm not sure)

i guess that is muting it.... but it still works for system critical events.
