I am looking into buying an acer laptop here in the UK. I was initially looking at the Aspire 1680 range and thinking of going for the 1682WLMi. However, I can not seem to find a reliable answer to the length of battery time. Some sites (including acer.com) say up to 5 hours, while others say 2 hours. Does anyone have one who could confirm this. Because of this I began looking at the travelmate 4502lCi v2 as all of the sites I have seen say up to 5 hours battery life, and many people here have said good things about this range. Basically the 4502 has all of the features I am looking for, while the 1682 has all those plus a DVD burner, a 15.4 inch screen and an extra 20GB on the hard drive and they are roughly the same price. The most important thing is battery life, and although the extra features would be nice they are not criticall. I plan to use it mainly for business type applications, although additionally for the odd game or movie here and there (both models have the Ati Radeon 64MB graphics). Any advice or experience of either machine would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

This really is not good. First post in a new forum and I made a mistake in the title [:I]. It should have read travelmate 4502 or aspire 1682. And I cannot find a way to edit this. Sorry.

Both are nearly the same except for one or two variants. And the battery ultimately comes down to where you are buying the lappy from. Some countries have the 4 cell where as some have the 8 cell. I was looking for the 4502 but ended up buying the 1683 coz of the integerated graphic card mess in the 4500 series. But am happy to say I ve got the 8 cell battery runnning for 4 plus hours. You can always buy a spare 8 cell if u end up with a 4 cell.

    Max0d,

I changed the title for you. [ ;)] You can easily edit your posts by clicking on the pencil & pad icon above your posts. This allows you to modify your Title as well.

The issue with the batteries is a bit confusing. Some models un Europe (in some parts of Europe) have the 8 cell, but other parts/models have the 4 cell. Acer is even unable to tell you exactly which unit has what battery. The best way to find out the battery type is to check the mAh. I believe an 8 cell battery is approx 4400mAh, while the 4 cell is half of that.

Regarding the screen, you may want to make sure that it is a 15.4" Wide Sceen LCD that you're getting with the 4502LCi models. From what I hear, all Wide Screen models have a W in the model#, so a Wide Screen model of the 4502 would be 4502WLCi. Just check to be sure, get it in writing (email) if Acer is telling you this. You may be able to use it as evidence if they mislead you and you buy the wrong unit.
