(this is about the same laptop as the 4501WLMi or 4002WLmi)
I've been running this laptop for quite some time now. VERY happy with it, apart from ONE thing : this laptop gets VERY hot. The underside, the right palmrest and area below keyboard around arrow keys tend to get uncomfortably hot.
The fan kicks in only when the system is almost burning or when playing 3D games. I have NOT experienced any lockups/crashes due to overheating , so I'm not so sure what to think about this.
I did upgrade my harddrive to a 7200rpm unit but it seems to stay pretty cool, even after extended use, so I don't think the hdd is the reason for the laptop getting hot.
Is this normal?

Suggestion. Try RMClock Utility. You can lower your core voltages. Made a big difference on my 4502LMI when CPU utilization is high. Still rock stable

Download mobilemeter and find the peak cpu usage
Most new 8100 goes from 45-55 normal to 75-80 on gaming or cpu intensive task
I suggest your run mobile meter all the time and if temp goes above 75 then reduce you clock speed with rmclock or by changing the power profile to max battery
Travelmate 4601WLMi getting quite hot
