    Hello,

As I understand, this laptop has an ATI HD 2400 graphics and a DVI-D connector, so it should be able to output 1080p picture to a TV via DVI-to-HDMI cable.

What interests me is, can it output audio via DVI-to-HDMI too, like a normal PCI-E HD 2400 card?

If anyone actually owns this laptop, can you check if there is such an option in BIOS or Control Panel > Sound? There should be a "HDMI audio" device or something like that.

    Thanks.

you have S/PDIF output optical for 5-1/7-1 surround

you will need a mini tosslink adapter and a sound/cinema system with optical in.
optical uses the same outlet as the headphones.
just push the tosslink adapter in to the headphone jack and make sure you have optical active and bingo the sound is amazing. i use media player true bass and SRS controls or cyberlink power DVD has good sound controllers.

all music in my house is now played using a laptop and media player 11 with the realtek HD optical active.

    Enjoy, and you will,
    Phil :D

will take pic showing optical for you :)

    Thanks Phil,

I believe Aspire 5520G has the headphone/SPDIF combo-connector, and Travelmate 5520G does not. (Don't know for sure, just from online technical specifications :) )

Anyway, I would prefer having only one cable (HDMI) for audio and video. I already have such setup on my HTPC and now I am looking for a low-cost laptop that can do the same thing... Hope this Acer is up to it. :)

try and find a a tosslink adapter as im sure the travelmate has the optical. if you can find a reference to S/PIDF then you have optical.
far better sound quality then the old copper wire lol.
    all the best.
