It seems that the 8200 is now available for pre-order from a few retailers.

The current best price is here (thanks to JB510).

    http://www.bytewizecomputers.com/pro...9/42/403/11736

And they will ship to the U.S.

If you want a U.S. retailer then the best price seems to be here.

    http://www.pcsuperstore.com/products/J26613-ACER-LXTAX06034.html

One hint on searching for best price for this laptop. Don't just search for Travelmate 8200 or TM8204WLMi, also search under the Acer part number LX.TAX06.034.

Beware that some retailers is going above the $2499 MSRP to cash in on the initial rush. Then again be careful if you see a deal that's too good to be true as it's probably is :) . Have fun and good hunting everyone.

The current best prices I have found in the U.S. are:

    http://www.buy.com/retail/product.a...66276&Type=PE&Category=Comp&Gad=0&dcaid=17379

    and

    http://www.sparco.com/cgi-bin/wfind2?spn=A62J316
Though this site also shows a shipping charge of $85, though it says that this may not prove accurate once the item is in stock.

Several dealers are now showing up on Froggle. I so hate waiting for a big purchase. It must be that I expend so much energy researching every available option, that when I finally actually DECIDE, I just want my new toy...NOW. Like a 3 year old...

www.ncix.com sells to Canadians and Americans and usually has low prices. They were 2400-ish too (CDN Dollars).

What's the catch here? Given the price on this Candadian site, even with shipping, is a couple hundred less than U.S. sites. Is there hidden duty? What about warranty? I'd be interested in hearing from folks who have ordered from Canada before.

Nah, I am pretty sure that the duty only works when we order from the USA. You guys are lucky. :)

NCIX has a US site though.

I placed a pre-order with NCIX, but can't say I'm thrilled with their customer service pre-sale. Haven't answered emails, my first credit card "didn't go through" and there are long waits on the phone. However, their price is great. They have no information on arrival date.

NCIX for under $2,200. I hope this machine is not a big flop.

    TM8204WLMi Intel Cen DUO T2500 2.0G,2048MB 2x1024MB DDR2,120G 5400rpm SATA,DVD-S
YOUR TOTAL:All quoted prices are in US DOLLARS $2,170.10

What is the difference between the 8200 and the 8204? I hope I got the right one.

How come they are listing two models with different prices? and by the way, they are listing the lower priced model with Centrino and not Centrino Duo which is strange and it never had been announced by Acer.

It's really strange, it seems that both of the items have the same Acer model number. I picked the higher one just to be sure, it's only a few CAD anyways.

Somecallmetim: Could you please post the estimated arrival date when NCIX gets back to you? That price is just too good so I'm guessing they won't get theirs till mid to late February like some of the other dealers.

Aren't like almost all the latest SOny screens clearview (the reflective ones)? So it would be hard to compare. Off the bat I would say Sony, but that's just a guess.

Well I took the plunge and pre-ordered from NCIX. I've been looking for a new laptop now for a while and when I saw the specs and then the price of the 8204 I knew that I had just found my own holy grail. I hope it works out and I too will pester the folks as NCIX for info ;)

When I talked to them, I was told that it was available but that they would have to put an order in and it would take two weeks to get to them then they would ship it out.

So then it's not available. It's a back door so they don't say the item is not in stock, as after two weeks it will be available to all online stores.

When I contacted Digital Spyders they told me the ETA for the Acer in Canada would be the beginning of Februrary and the ETA in the US would be the middle of Februrary. I'm not sure how accurate that will be though.

Acer Canada told me that the boat from Asia arrives in Vancouver this week. Customs clearance, unloading, etc... will take time. At this point he says the retailers should have it on hand around Feb.23-27.

    Yikes.

    Hmn,

I pre-ordered with PC Connection here in the US, and they said in reply to my asking that the shipment was due in today, modulo 3-5 days potential shipping delays.

I have been checking bytewize and it was suppose to be in their warehous today, the 1st but now the stopwatch has been reset. Why can't those people at NICX be honest? at least it'll take away the anticipation.

    "
This item has not yet been released. You may order it today, and we'll ship it to you when it arrives at our warehouse. This item will be available in 9 days (Thursday, February 9th, 2006)."

Actually, Units hit U.S. shores on the 28th but depending on if the retailer is getting it direct ship from China or thru a distributor in the U.S. Those that have direct ship from China would have gotten their's yesterday and those thru distributors would depends on the shipping methods between the distributor and them but it won't be long now.

Why would anyone pay bestbuy or tigerdirect full price? I can see Best Buy justifying MSRP, but Tiger Direct doesn't have as much operating cost as Bestbuy.

I e-mailed NCIX a few days ago and they said that the 8204 should be in stock in 2-5 days. We can hope that's true but I think it's a strech, I'm thinking more and more about just dicthing this model and going for a lappy with a turion. We'll see though.

I had a similar thought (and if there was dual core turion notebook with an ATI x1600 available I'd jump all over it like a frog on crack), then I thought that it was kind of stupid to be that impatient. It's just the waiting. We all hate the waiting. Especially once you've actually MADE A DECISION. (At least with me).

Incidentally, when you check stock on the NCIX site, it still says 0 at the warehouse. I'll try to call tomorrow and get an update.

I feel you guys. I am trying to be as patient as I can since I've been looking for a mobile notebook with a decent video card for a long time and finnally found one, but I just can't justify paying a few hundred more for the the thing when it will probably show up in a week or so with one of the cheaper sellers. Here's hoping NCIX gets their stock in a week or so!

Congrats on getting one. I'm happy to see that they're finally on this continent (I'm assuming that you're in the US BTW). I can't wait for mine to come but I'm going to have to hold in just a bit longer. I hope that the two of you have many good years together :p

PS please post some review/reaction when you can and some pics would be great too since we don't have too much and some of us are very eager to get ours ;)
