Anyone know if Travelmate 8371 will make it to the USA marketplace? Seems to be available in multiple nations except the USA.
This is my ideal notebook if I can get one.
I want a Travelmate 8371 with SU9400 or SU9600 or better, Wimax, SSD, 4GB RAM, WWLAN, Vista Business and Bluetooth and ATI. A souped up model with all the frills and toys.
A non SSD model just doesn't cut the mustard due to slower booting times. Windows 7 is a must as well with a FREE Upgrade at minimum.
Think Acer will pop something in at a reasonable price point in the coming weeks?

Actually, its to your advantage to get a laptop without a SSD and install one yourself. It is cheaper and you have the option to do a clean install which will speed things up even more. That said, I don't think the Travelmate 8371 will come with a SSD model.
I emailed Acer Canada and asked them if they had any plans to release the 8371 and they said something along the lines of not at this time. Canada gets about 80% of what the USA gets in terms of electonics so there is a good chance you will get this before I do. I don't want to settle for a Timeline notebook because they do not come with a dedicated graphics card. I'm actually surprised that Acer offers a decicated graphics card on their business machine and not their consumer one. It is usually the other way around.
The price will probably be around 1000 USD for those requirements minus the SSD. By the way, those specs are exactly what I would be looking for. For a second I thought I was the one asking the question.
Acer, if you are reading this please release this computer to the north american market. They will sell better than your current business offerings. -
I prefer the SSD preinstalled IF it is the new Intel 80GB SSD model X25-M. The SSD should add 200-300 in the price, not sure exactly how much but in that ballpark figure.
Acer on the website seemed to indicate there would be an 80GB SSD option and since then the Intel X25M has come out in recent days and is available for $310 to regular customers from newegg.com and $225 for OEM pricing in bulk.
I am not buying today. With SSD and all the frills I would expect it to be like $1500 or less. The lower the better with discounts off of retail.
Remember the 3810T in the USA is limited in quantity right now and is selling at full retail of $899 for the 3810T-6415 with 4GB, Integrated video, 500GB HD, core 2 duo SU9400. As to if this will come down in price (it is not the model I want nor will buy) with discounts may occur as more stock and vendors get them in.
Even Acer has said August to September so I am trying to hold out. Takes time to product, built, and add components. -
Any vendors sell Timeline 8371 to USA from Norway which has the part # I want? I may buy it from Norway.

I'm looking for this model in the US too. It seems like Australian vendors have this model in stock already or coming within the next 30 days.
I'm specifically looking for the Travelmate 8371 with SU9400 or SU9600, 4GB RAM, 320-500GB HD, and the ATI graphics. In Australia, it seems to be the manufacturer part number LX.TTK0Z.083
Hope it's available in the US soon. -
Anyone know of any AU, NZ, or UK Vendors who ship to the US? Seems like all of these countries have the 8371 released in the configuration I am looking for.
