So there have been a few laptop leaks for CES 2019. A couple months ago I was hyped for the Triton 900. But I had the $3000 into my head as my limit if I'd get it. And it's $4000. Ouch
But, acer is releasing a 15" model and can have a 2080 max-q inside. Plus they claim 8hrs of battery life. If it gets 6hrs atleast I'd be sold. And I hope they got rid of that mechanical keyboard.
What do you guys think?
Edit:
Found a trailer video that gives a better look at the ports. If this has cooling as good as the Triton 700 this is definitely shaping up to be my next laptop. May sell my desktop too.
-
No one? Come on guys I can't be the only one excited for this.
-
Acer has really been making some cool laptops lately.

I honestly think if they played their cards right they could put alot of pressure on Razer. They're build quality seems to be on point while having much better cooling solutions. I just wish they'd stop making the super premium $4000 laptops that I can't justify buying. Lol. They must sell though otherwise they probably wouldn't bother.Eclipse251 likes this.

I've read that they use the same cooling as the 700 so there's a good chance
Depends on the pricing, i bought the 700 from Costco but it costed me 2800ish at the time, I returned it because performance wise was barely better than my Aorus x5v7 and not worth the price i paid for.mason2smart likes this. -
Would be exciting if you can setup a manual fan curve with 0% fan speed as a value.
And disable the logo lighting -
I recently sold my gs65 1070 maxq because I knew the 20xx laptops were dropping soon. Was originally planning on getting a blade, gs65 or aero 15 but.... I now think this has jumped up to the top of my shortlist.
Reasons
#1 Very thin
#2 Light enough (not the lightest but close neough)
#3 Build quality (looks sturdier than the gs65)
#4 144hz and gsync
#5 nicely spaced keyboard
Only downside im seeing is price seems very high. 1800USD for the 2060 model??? That sounds like Razer esque pricingmason2smart likes this. -
The videos show they did change the layout. Three fans instead of two. And I think there is more heat pipes now. I didn't keep my triton 70pl0 because of the poor battery life. I was getting maybe 2 hours with it doing web browsing. So that wasn't gonna cut it.
They have softwsre called Predator sense on their laptops. It lets you control overclocking, lighting, and fan speed. So if you want the fans off you can do that.
Yeah I went through all the 1070 mq laptops and returned them all for one reason or another. Triton 700 was so close for me. If it had better battery I would've kept it.
1800 usd isn't too outlandish. It does have gsync which I don't think razer added to their latest laptop. So that's good. And it has more ports. Plus razers support is notoriously bad. Probably the worst I've had to deal with.RMXO likes this. -
Hopefully. My Aero 15X can only go down to 30% with the Gigabyte software so hopefully it's not limited like that. I didn't see any glimpse of a manual fan curve from the software screenshot in the video though. I think the GS65 is the only laptop with decent battery life so far that lets you do those 2 things
-
I had the triton 700 so I used the software myself. It's like setting a fan curve on a desktop gpu. If that gives you an idea. You can also just set it to whatever you want manually. I made a quiet profile that turned them off. Just dont forget to change it back once you play a game. Lol
-
Hopefully they have the same options in software then! Was the software fan ui on the 700 similar to what's in the 2nd vid you linked at 2:57 timestamp?
Would be great to have a competitor to the GS65 since this apparently has 8 hours of battery life too -
Yes that's the software from the Triton 700.
I hope they improved the speakers on the GS65. At 100% I could not hear them while playing games and had to use earphones. Or I'm just getting old. -
That's disappointing to hear regarding the GS65. The Aero 15X isn't particularly loud either(or good), not sure if it's because of the down facing speakers or what
Nice to know there's at least 2 laptops that let you go down to 0% fan speed and have a manual fan curve lol. Have high hopes.. I'm guessing the Triton 700 didn't have a fingerprint scanner or Windows Hello? -
I would like them to refresh the Triton 700 and have it at 17". After looking at the upcoming 15x, the 500 is looking like the one to get so far.
-
Yeah I had that experience when I had one for short time also. Downward speakers are almost never good. I think on a gaming laptop it should always be on top.
I'm not sure about windows hello. Probably not. That's a shame if I doesn't but, not a deal breaker for me.
I agree. MSI and Asus did it. Maybe they'll make one now they see others are doing it.
And I'm a bit torn now. . .Alienware announced the Area 51m. All desktop parts in a 17" thin bezel desktop replacement. I'm very torn now. I do plan on replacing my desktop with what ever laptop I get. And that one is making a compelling case. I'd need to find a backpack to lug that monster around in. -
Oh, looks like I'll have to take a look at AW 51m then, thanks for the tip.
I use the Asus backpack on Amazon.

No problem. I literally just found out about it. It's officially releasing at the end of the month. I was looking at Clevo and msi titan laptops not long ago so this was a really nice surprise from Alienware.
Yeah I guess asus would have big backpacks wouldn't they? Gotta lug those gx703 laptops around. Lol -
Looks really good so far, it’s on my short list of laptops that I’m looking to upgrade to.
My old 17 predator has served me well and might just stick with ACER again, it’ll all come down to thermals and fan noise for me and the most important part....price.
Does the keyboard backlighting only come in Blue? Not a deal breaker but would be nice to have different programmable color choices just for fun.
I’ll be keeping on eye on this for sure.Last edited: Jan 9, 2019hmscott likes this. -
From the video it seems its a 3 lighting zone backlit keyboard
-
This and Asus's 17" Zephyrus (gx701) are the two gaming laptops I'm most excited about from CES.
It's completely subjective but to me the Triton 500 seems to be the most balanced of all the announced 20 series laptops in terms of size, looks, and cooling. I'm hoping that the reviews once released back that up. I'm also very interested in the battery size as I can't seem to find any data on it.IKAS V likes this. -
Definitely agree. Both have very appealing designs.
All I've seen so far is "Up to 8 hours of battery life". So if that's to be believed I'm guessing it will be roughly 5-6 hours of real life use.
I'm sure we'll be seeing review units soon. -
any reason why this is launching later than the rest of the RTX laptops?
Also, are there confirmed specs for the different builds/pricepoints for this model? -
Acer is always late to the party.
I think they make less units than the other companies as they always seem to out of stock of popular laptops too. So maybe they started making them late? -
Is there a launch date and any ideas on price?
The more I look a the Triton 500 the more I like it.
It’s a shame more places like XoticPC, GenTech PC or Hidevolution don’t offer ACER laptops particularly Triton/Predator lineups.
I like that’s its thin but not too thin and allows more space to cool hardware.Last edited: Jan 13, 2019 -
Sadly, I wished they did, I'll probably buy from Amazon, ship to HID and ask them to do the thermal pasting for me if I deem the laptop needing it after testing.
-
I thought this Acer ad was helpful.
It details the cooling solution which consists of (3) fans and (5) heat pipes. -
I haven't seen anything. The triton 700 was scarce when it was released up until now. So maybe they just didn't both with it since it was difficult to get them. I can imagine HIDevolution buys in bulk to get a discount and Acer might not have been able to provide them with the orders or maybe even refused?
-
Triton 700 was at Costco for a period of time, I got mine there but returned it after a few weeks, 2.8k price didn't equate to the performance it was providing. Ted@HID is my rep and when I asked him about selling Acer, he said that they are looking into it as they have had folks asking them about it. Hopefully, we will have good news soon. From reading online, the Triton 500 is suppose to come out in Feb and Triton 900 in March. For pricing, they've mentioned 1799, so I'm guessing that will be the 2060 model then add a mark up for 2070 and 2080 and the 900 will be ridiculously expensive.
-
Aaah. So it might have been an interest issue? Makes sense.
Pretty you're right on the 1799 being the 206p model. If it hass 144hz and gsync that's not a bad price. Hopefully the 2080 model isn't 3000. -
Yeah, it's probably an interest thing, heck Acer was never on my radar until I saw the Triton 700. I've always associated them with cheap to mid range stuff. My first ever Acer product was the Predator 34x.
I'm guessing close to it as other 2080 laptops are near that price range.

£1500 for the 2060/i5 8GB RAM 256GB SSD
£1800 for the 2060/i7 16GB RAM 512GB SSD
£2000 for the 2070/i7 x1 SSD
£2200 for the 2070/i7 x2 SSD
£2500 for the 2080/i7 x1 SSD
£2700 for the 2080/i7 x2 SSD
from what I can see
GS65 with 512GB SSD x1 and 2080 is £3000
Aero 15 Y9 with 1TB SSD and 2080 is £3200
idk if they're the actual prices but you can see these by inspecting the webpage of the shopTerreos likes this. -
Razer has their prices up. The 2080 with 512gb 144hz is $3000 and the 2070 is $2649. So if the prices you found on the Triton 500 are accurate then we should see it be fairly priced.
-
Found this video on YouTube of an unboxing. It's in Vietnamese so if anyone could translate that'd be great.

Nice find. Looks slick too. It dod say preorder at the end so I'm gonna see if they have that up as I'm curious on the cost compared to the likes of the gs65 and zephyrus s.
-
Well the Zephy S(2080, 16GB RAM, 1TB NVME) is £3500 apparently so it's the most expensive, if the retailer prices are true
-
Those prices are not as bad as I thought they would be.
This is shaping up to be the best deal if prices are for real.
GS65 is a very good laptop but without a Gsync screen it’s a missing feature I want in my next laptop.
Aero 15 already ran hot and loud and unless they really worked on the cooling system the Y9 with 2080 probably will as well, also a great laptop but expensive.
Asus Zephyrus S was one laptop at the top of my list but if it’s going to be the most expensive it’s going to be hard to justify spending that much money. -
Yeah the prices are nice if they're final
Still interested to see this implementation of gsync(mux or variable refresh rate implementation) due to the battery being "up to 8 hours". Mux would allow you to use adaptive sync and don't have to deal with lower fps from having to copy to the igpu to display like some people have(haven't tried verifying it myself).
GS 65(less so because of flipped board)/75 would be near perfect if it had Windows Hello, don't know why they didn't bring back the fingerprint scanner power button like that one SKU that had it activated
Aero 15 seems like throttle land with 0 changes to anything else, wouldn't even consider it anymore
I was interested in the Zephy S but the soldered 8GB of ram is weird, no thunderbolt and weird port versions vs GM501 are kinda deal breakers for me
I don't understand these laptop manufacturers lol, at least this Acer is cheaper than the rest of its competitors so you can overlook some missing thingsIKAS V likes this. -
I'm guessing, the 2080 version of the Triton 500 will be as expensive as the Triton 700 at around 2899.99
-
So the Trion 500 is going to require removing the motherboard if you want to upgrade the ram, m.2, or a repaste. Man that's disappointing.

Great find!
It looks like the battery is 82/WH. -
Yes the battery is a nice improvement. That was one of the weakest points on the last one. I still have not found anything on the keyboard. But I think they did go with a normal keyboard and not the fake mechanical one.
-
Great find indeed, it looks like Acer has made the choice for me.Taking it apart isn't so bad as the MSI GS6x was but I prefer easy access to my changeable parts. Now I must ask myself if I value G-Sync / removing mobo to change parts over no G-Sync but changing parts will be easy plus its 17".undervolter0x0309 likes this. -
For me gsync is almost a requirement. High fps helps make it less necessary. But only slightly. It's funny I was so ready to get the Triton 500. . .but the more I learned about it the less I was impressed. I've already decided I'm going with a Desktop Replacement this time around. Easy access to upgrades and performance is the name of the game for me.
-
Yeah, I was set on the Triton 500 as well but now i prefer the upcoming MSI GS75 over it. Extremely disappointing but glad I found about this now compared to learning it once you have one.
-
Yes, that's a shame, really. I think MSI got the message about the GS 65 and did the GS 75 right, apparently.
And while we're at it, if someone could provide some explanation/context about the gesture at 3:05 it would be appreciated -
Totally agree.
I'm planning on replacing my desktop so I'm currently planning on doing so with the Alienware 51m. Should have plenty of punch and it's easy to open up. If I'm lucky I'll be able to upgrade to the 3000 series gpu's. Though I'm not holding my breath.
If it doesn't work out then I'll consider the zephyrus gx701.
Did they flip the motherboard on the GS75? I just assumed it was the same as the GS65. -
AW 51m very nice, let us know how you like if you end up with one, I doubt you can go up to the 3k series but at least you can upgrade until then.
Yes, they flipped it back to the way it always has been before copying the GS6x series for the past 2 revisions. -
Well I have one preordered so I'll definitely be giving my impressions on it once it arrives. I'm getting mine directly from dell so I'll be able to give an honest opinion on how it runs out of the box. Hopefully dell is finally using some decent thermal paste. And I'm not holding my breath on a 3000 series upgrade. That would be too practical and consumer friendly.
Well that's great to hear. I'll have to keep that on my short list if my Area 51m doesn't pan out. My local bestbuy normally has msi laptops. So I might be able to look at one in person. -
The AW 51M looks pretty awesome.
I've been hoping that one day desktop replacement laptops will have easily replaceable screens in addition to all the internal components. CES 2020 perhaps...
I'm thinking functionality wise something like a Surface Book where say your playing an esport game you have the 1080 144hz screen connected and later when your playing something with pretty visuals, swapping it out in about 10 seconds to a 4K panel. -
Very disappointing!
I rarely do upgrades (might occasionally add more storage if there’s room or a empty spot)but I like to repaste the CPU and GPU if needed but if I have to take the whole laptop apart to do so I might look at something else.
I could probably do it but I dont fell like I should have to do so much work for a simple procedure.
Unless they have well configured laptops at a reasonable price that run cool and don’t throttle out of the box I’m not sure about this laptop anymore.Nintendo Power, Arondel and Terreos like this.
