Acer products specs for 5739g I have (and other notebooks) show "True5.1-channel surround sound output". But I can find no documentation for hooking up 5.1 surround sound cables.

I looked at some stuff buried in a few threads but usually leads to a dead end or not true 5.1. I saw converter cables that split the individual ports in one thread but noted it was not true 5.1.

What about spidf? Is that where I can get true 5.1 and just need to find some sort of adapter for the 5 pairs of speaker cables?

I'm not sure if it's true for all notebooks, but when I set up my laptop for 5.1 output, the microphone and line-in ports are converted to speaker outputs; thus, I have three jacks for three speaker pairs, FR/FL, RR/RL, and C/SUB.

As for the S/PDIF, my laptop's headphones port doubles as an optical port; I just use a mini-TOSLINK connector to go from my system to my receiver.

3 ports and 3 cables works fine. I feel stupid since I was counting the mic cable as off limits. I connected them and reassigned it to 5.1 in realtek manager. So far it tested fine. thx

Hello Vera_Leal, and welcome to the forums!
Since your situation is different from the original poster (different model and problem), this would have been better suited to being in a new topic.

This sounds like something that Launch Manager would have controlled; have you re-installed that? What about your sound drivers, are you using the Realtek ones?
