*Adding 1GB of Turbo Memory to the 5920G.
If you have a board that looks like the one in the photo on the right in your 5920G, then you have it already.
It would be in the slot i circled in red (left photo). The yellow shows where the two screws and connector go.
The driver (as noted by ReaperX) is already in the 5920G, and just needs to be installed, or you can use the one from the included CD that comes with it.
You can purchase the 1GB Turbo Memory board here for like $30.00;![]()

Do you see any performance boost with the turbo memory? I'm really debating whether I should get it or not but all the benchmarks are telling me it's horrid...
-
IMO.. It's intended use is not for BenchMark performance (as in 3DMark06).. It's main function (from reading the article i posted the link to) seems to be opening applications 2x faster. I think this is where all the confusion is coming from.
It's only $30.00 for you guys with the 2.0ghz UK 5920G!!! -
Does it actually open the applications faster? Also, does it boot up Windows faster? That's really the main reason I want it. I hate watching Windows boot up. It's almost intolerable to me...
-
The other thing it does is helps out with your swap file when you start to run out of system memory.
So you are right it's hard to benchmark it. I ordered one too for my new lappy. Once the drivers mature I think it will be a worthwhile upgrade for $30. I will try to benchmark boot times and some apps I use all the time like Firefox, OpenOffice, etc. -
Edit: And will I see ANY performance gain at all if I have 2GB of RAM? And maybe even a 2GB SD card in the card reader used for ReadyBoost? -
The position badabing shows is where the second pci slot is located..
Although don't expect any major differences in performance..
At some situations it can make things worse, but generally you can see an improve with the baterry.
Check this article.. http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3009
And don't forget there is always the option of activating ready boost with a flash,or memory card.
Anyway,I am also thinking of doing this upgrade as long as the price is so low just to test it..
Although I can't find it in Europe... -
-
So it can only cache at most 512mb's of files. So until that 512 is full you should see your frequently accessed programs launch faster, and see some improved hard drive access times. -
The old one is this http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=2985&p=4 -
Hmm... So that in turn also increases battery life right? If Vista is going to page the files to the SD card and Turbo Memory instead of the Hard Drive, it has no reason to really spin... Are there any bigger TurboMemory modules than 1GB? I would like to have 2 or even 4GB. Just do have the Hard Drive spin much less.
I basically want the SD card + TurboMemory to create a ghetto hybrid drive for me... -

Readyboost + Turbo Memory will decrease your performance according to AnandTech,Read That article

Sorry to hijack, but is bluetooth just as easy to add to the same notebook, assuming the required modules exist.

Although there is a space for the turbo module, there is no connector
on the motherboard to plug into. How about any of you other guys? -
>I took a look at the back of my 5920G (From Best Buy).
Although there is a space for the turbo module, there is no connector on the motherboard to plug into.
Nope... The BestBuy 1.5GHZ cannot be upgraded. It does not have a second PCI Express Mini-Card socket, but the 2.0GHZ UK model does.
You would need to add something like these shown below, which would not be that easy due to the location of accessing the two under-sided mother-board screw holes (major tear down just to reach them) On a good note, the solder pad is there for it to lay on;

ok added my turbo mem card. only problem is with drivers all installed (inc clean install) im unable to active ready drive, ready boost will enable but in the turbo mem control panel the ready drive tick option is greyed out,
Any ideas?

Also check your disk drives under Device Manager. Do you have IMD-0? Your main HDD should also have a NVcache property page. If there's nothing here, do you have an AHCI controller under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers?
John -
Hi John,
Cheers for those tips,
can confirm i indeed have the imd-0, and the nv page under my hdd.
Also i have the ahci drivers installed under ata/atapi controllers.
Really has me stumped lol. will try more re-boots.
Many Thanks -

Note also that the AHCI driver (7.0) bundled with the Turbo Memory driver is older than the AHCI driver published separately (7.6).
John -
Nice one john,
Downloaded the latest intel sata/ahci drivers and all sorted, now showing as both being enabled.
Cheers for your help. rep added -
