Right the ML 34 is single core 1.8ghz 1mb L2 cache
the TL50 is 1.6ghz dual core ,2x256kb L2 cache, would there be much difference ?

from what i have heard the L2 cache is very important if playing games with extensive geometry

i ask this question because my old laptop was an acer aspire 5102wlmi and the laptop with the ML 34 is a aspire 5024wlmi with an x700 , and i do some gaming but i was wondering would the single core processor be much slower at tasks like word processing and web pages and video decoding?

    DUAL CORE all the way.....

GRAPHICS chipset is much more important to gaming than L2 cache...

while you won;t see a marked increase in word processing or webpages,, you will see SOME improvment... but with video decoding DUAL CORE will shine

and the DUAL CORE will totally overcome the smaller cache and slower speed due to having 2 cores (effectively 2 CPUs in one chip).... while you can't expect to get DOUBLE the speed (1.6 X 2).... you will notice a HUGE difference becaue of the dual data and instruction pipelines!!!

and your gaming is going to be limited more by the GRAPHICS CHIP than the CPU and it's level 2 cache....
but having the extra data thruput of 2 cores is gonna make your games more responsive (within the limits of the GPU) which is the bottleneck all newer games are limited by...

BTW how much L3 cache does each differnet model have?? with AMD cpus that is a HUGE factor too

hope i answered more questions than i asked..

for your next laptop purchase,, i'd consider an laptop based on an INTEL CPU and chipset..... they seem to be more stable,,, less heat... and IMO have less problems due to more support and drivers being updated more often

    just my oppinion

see the 7720g if you want a dedicated GPU (nividia) or if you want a cheap laptop that is highly upgradeable
the 5315, 5715, 5720, 7720... all based on the ACADIA mainboard (any of those with model#s ending in G have an Nvidida driver that is good for gaming....)

or the 8920 if ya just wanna toss cash at an excellent gaiming laptop
