I actually have 2 question.
1. How do you turn off the monitor of a notebook? I'm not talking about that Fn+F6 key on Acer notebooks, that one only turns off the lcd backlight, i want one that really turns the monitor off like when you set it in Power Options->Turn off monitor: .
2. If theres really no command for that (but i think windows should have), is there a danger of having stuck pixel on your notebook LCD if you leave it for hours turned on?
I would actually settle for stand-by mode, but that mode cuts you of from the network.

"stuck pixels" are pixels on the lcd screen that sometimes don't respond. So you will see them as "red" or "blue" pixels at one moment and then they will dipslay the correct color. Sometimes massaging these with a cloth will unstick them and correct the problem.
"dead pixels" are pixels on the lcd screen that are basically never going to respond.
Yes, LCDs may suffer from burn in or "image persistence", but it is a lot harder and it takes a lot longer than the convential CRTs. My advice is just to blank the LCD screen with a screensaver or the powersaving features if you are away from the computer for more than 5-10 minutes. -
Just pointing out that burn in/image persistance is not the same thing as dead or stuck pixels.

This maybe a stupid way to do it, but its the only way I can think of. On my 5672 there is the ATI control panel, within it you can create profiles. So what you can do is set it to output to your vga, and disable your notebook LCD. Then you can access it thru a hotkey.

p2k - clever way of doing it!
