    Hi,

    I recently got a 8172Z and cannot get the two finger tap for right and three finger tap for middle click working. I am aware of the two-finger-scroll tool but it seems not work for certain windows and I also would honestly prefer it integrated in the driver.

    I tried numerous Synaptics and Elantech drivers but none came with this feature so far. Also Scrybe does not offer it.

    Does anyone know a driver where this functionality definitely is present?

    Thanks a lot!

    For 2 Finger scroll to work with the latest Synaptics Driver the touchpad hardware has to be
    -Made by Synaptics
    -Hardware Version at least version 6.2 or above.

    Sorry, but it is not about scrolling and of course it is a Synaptic pad with version 7.

    How about using Tap Zones to configure Left Right Middle click?

    Thanks, that might be a last resort, first however I would really like to see if there is any driver out there supporting this. So far nothing worked, they either did not support it or the configuration window did not show most of its options (this in particular with Elantech drivers, thought the pad itself worked) or I could not open the configuration dialog at all.

    If anyone could point me to a driver which actually works in this area I would be really most grateful.

    Thanks gekk, but as I mentioned in the initial posting I am aware of this tool.

    oh ok. if it doesnt work on certain windows, chances are those windows are running as admin. consider running the tool with admin rights so you can have that enabled on those windows as well. if you want to run app on startup, consider configuring it as a task and setting it to run at login with highest privileges.

    sorry about that, did not read entire post :)

    Thanks, this is a great tip, I didnt think of potential rights issues.

    Still however :), if someone would know if there is a (custom?) driver with this feature, I'd be really grateful!

    I was seriously wading through seas of drivers and so far none provided it .....

    You can get "middle-click" by pressing both touchpad buttons at the same time:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults]

    "HasBothButtonFeature"=dword:00000001
    "ButtonModePlugInID"="SynTP"
    "ButtonModePlugInActionID"=dword:00000027

    Simply copy the stuff above into a new text file and save as "middleclick.reg" or similar. Then run regedit "as Administrator" and import the file you previously created.
    Sometimes double-clicking the .reg file works also.

    Thanks Michael, but as I said, I am looking for a solution to have double and triple tapping working. As far as it seems so far at least, there is not a single driver out there supporting it.

    This is kinda a cross-posting of http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/554451-two-finger-tapping.html in the hope to reach a broader also non-Acer audience :)

    Basically I am looking for a (most probable custom) driver which supports two and three finger tapping for right and middle clicking.

    Synaptics drivers do not seem to support it all. Elantech drivers would offer this feature and can also be installed and generally work with the Touchpad, however the configuration dialog only shows the "button" category and all others are hidden (forcefully enabling them shows the dialogs but does not enable the functionality either).

    I am aware of the two-finger-scrolling utility but would really prefer a solid driver solution if existent. So if anyone would know if there is a driver supporting it I would be most grateful!

    For starters, it is against forum rules to cross post.

    Have you tried the registry fix Michael_Recycled suggested? Make sure you back up your registry beforehand.

    Don't cross post on these forums again. Both of your threads have been merged.
