a friend of mine needs some urgent help

he has an acer 5024 that got a 128mb ati x700 in it , and hes taken it toa shop and theyve diagnosed the problem as the cards blown, is it possible/easy to do himself and replace it if he got a new card ? anyone know what the maximum new card he could buy and put it in would be and where from ?

    any help gratefully appriciated

    thanks folks :)

Dunno which post to reply to.. :p
But he cud upgrade to the 256MB card in that ATI family....presumably the X800 maybe..or downgrade to the 64MB X600 or stay with the 128MB X700 :p (thats what i get for ur laptop)..if the whole video card thing is dedicated and can be removed....because the laptop does show up with a 256MB dedicated card....so he cud give it a try or look for the gpu or the motherboard itself with the code (LB)MB.AA501.001....although a bit more info about the notebook mite help....!!

nope....they are not at all easy to buy....U ll have to hunt for them....
the registered spare parts dealers will demand an arm and a leg for it.... :p
ebay is ur only hope....i fear that it ll be hard for u to even get a cheap X700.... :p although if the X800 is almost same as the X700....it shud fit easily....!!
