My computer is reading my high speed USB 2.0 port as a slower USB port (it's not specified which one). How do I solve this?

BTW I'm running Windows XP on an ACER TravelMate 2451.

Did you install drivers for the chipset you have? You can download drivers from Intel (its called the Intel Chipset Utility).

I use to own an acer. By any chance did it come with vista and you installed xp or did you install xp on your own. If so the problem might be the drivers aren't well made for xp.

In device manager, it says "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB host controller".

My laptop came bundled with XP

It says (whenever I connect the device) that "the device can perform faster if connected to a high-speed port". I also get messages like "High-speed device connected to low-speed port". I know for a fact that my computer didn't come with two 2.0 USB drives and one random low speed one.

not quite the same problem.... but simular.

i had to use an old version of the intel chipset drivers...

the ones i used are near the top of this link
    http://soulpass.com/2007/11/10/inst...essional-sp2-on-acer-aspire-5315-2153-laptop/

it cleared up two USB devices that the new chipset driver left uninstalled... so i don't see how it could hurt... worst case just re-install the newer drivers and be back where you were..

    later,
    bigozone
