I have an Aspire 5570, and I would love for it to be USB 2.0 set out of BIOS and from there on but it is not. Any USB device connected at boot is detected as a 1.1 device. I know it is possible as I have dell's that are 2.0 right from BIOS on. I've tried different BIOS'es, there aren't any settings in the BIOS for USB. Are there any Acer laptops that have USB 2.0 right from POST on and not just in an OS?

I know that Phoenix BIOS support USB 2.0...

ACER is using InsydeH2O EFI/UEFI(firmware, not BIOS) lately and, according to http://www.insydesw.com/ , it does support USB 2.0..

    What is EFI?

    From http://www.insydesw.com/press/2006/Insyde_UEFI_FAQ.pdf:
So I guess any new laptop with Phoenix BIOS/InsydeH20 should support USB 2.0 from BIOS...

My InsydeH20 doesn't have any USB settings either...

EDIT: You have Phoenix BIOS right? But the latest BIOS update for your laptop is from..2006/2007? Maybe that's why you don't have USB 2.0 support....

EDIT2: Yep, its confirmed that my InsydeH20 use EFI 2.0 which means that I do have USB 2.0 in BIOS...

Here's my experience with trying to get USB 2.0 bios functionality from the lovely Acer tech support. Start reading from the bottom.

I'll add that in trying to find a bios update, the latest I could find on Acer Panamerican site was 1.3517. I had to go searching on the European site to find a bios version 5 versions higher at 1.3522! Apparently, one of these versions lowered the Video card temperature 20°C!! It still didn't allow for USB 2.0 support at boot, though.

I'm not impressed with Acer's support.

Is there an easier way to test if my laptop has USB 2.0 support? Maybe Insyde based models support it..

My Acer Aspire One supported USB 2.0 speeds. I test this by using a bootable USB device that loads to Windows PE. Compared to the Aspire 5570, it loaded much much faster, easily noticeable.
