I have an Acer 5720G. I have lost power on the 4 USB ports.
All work okay if I use a powered hub so it looks like its just a power issue. How can I get them working properly again?

Are you on any type of power saving?

Hmm seems like an unusual problem. You tried other devices to make sure its not just your device?

Try plugging the device into the USB port and only that device. As in don't plug any other USB into it. Then go into Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus Controllers -> right click the USB root hubs -> click properties -> Power.

First is the total power for all of them 500 mA per Port?
Second did you find a port where see the deivce and it says there is power required?

    Device manager shows 6 hubs,
4 appear as in first pic below.
I think the composite device referred to in 2nd pic is the webcam (doesn't work anymore)
I think the ports referred to in 3rd pic is the card reader (not working either)
I have tried several different usb devices incl pen drives, camera, external HD - all work if connected to powered hub but none when connected directly.
Is there an on board fuse that might be blown?
    Thanks for your help

Followed instructions on www.usbman.com/Guides/Cleanup...afe Mode.htm but no luck.
The fact that all ports work with a powered hub wud seem to indicate that the ports are ok but are not getting any power from the mobo.
    thanks for yur help

Well if nothing software wise can solve the problem, I guess you should contact Acer Customer Service Support and ask them. They MIGHT tell you to try to reflashing your BIOS since it could also be an issue with that.

But if its the mobo itself, then I'd suggest you let Acer Customer Service to deal with it.

How long have you had the laptop? Do you have any extended warranties on it?

    unfortunately its out of warranty.
I discussed with a very helpful agent from AE Technology (Acer Warranty Customer Services) it would seem that the USB board is the problem. The good news is that the USB board on my model is a push-in fitting. Part number is 55.TK901.001 and costs £15.90 at http://uk.eetnordic.com/.
I'm going to have a go at fitting myself
