I have just taken ownership of my new laptop. It has the bluray disc drive and has the HDMI slot so I purchased a new movie disc and a HDMI cable - plugged then into my HD tv and nothing!!!!

I have tried starting the computer up connected and also not connected to the tv and it makes no difference. I have used the Fn+F5 key to switch from my screen to the tv and still nothing.

The only thing I get is some times an error message sysing graphics driver error but I would expect a new laptop with ATI radeon HD 3470 be able to cope with a blueray disc output???

Am I missing something obvious or has anyone else had this problem???

It does sound like an ATi driver issue.
The Radeon HD 3470 should be more than capable of handling Blu-ray video.
Are you sure that your AV setup meets the requirements for playing Blu-ray - HDCP, HDMI 1.3, etc?
    Take a look here.

Hi, what TV is it, possibly you need to read your TV manual as it sounds like there might be a setting in there somewhere that needs adjusting. Aslo note that you cannot play blu-ray on both screens at the same time due to licencing restrictions, or so Acer say...

you have to tell the laptop what output you are using and if you want sound trough HDMI or OPTICAL.
FN+F5 is for the VGA output not the HDMI.
i don't have the HDMI output but on my son's compaq it does.
we found the control for this in the ATI graphics options.
after the same problem you had QWERTY.

    all the best
