Cut and paste error - both urls point to the ACER TM4062LMI.

I will assume you have settled on these two choices. If not and you only have a dollar amount and some other criteria in mind then it would be worth your while to fill in the What Should I Buy questionaire and others will be eager to offer alternative suggestions.

It really all depends on your needs and as in this market in particular the longer you wait , the more options there are , and in general more features / performance for the same money. Try and pick your top criteria (glossy screen ? Memory ? DVD-RW Dual core ? whatever - make a choice and do not look at laptop prices again until you are ready top buy again !

Not much advice I know - but some suggestions none the less - Good Luck !

Well it's a tough decision. The TM4062LMI is a 15" normal ratio screen, 1.7ghz and 256 RAM, the 1691WLMi is 15.4" widescreen, 1.6ghz and 512 RAM. I prefer a widescreen, dont know about you. As for the better of the two, the 4062LMI has a faster processor, but the 1691WLMi makes up with the 512 RAM, larger HD and more VRAM. They are not dual core.

I'd go for the widescreen. The 1691WLMi, bigger HD, more RAM, and more shared VRAM (128mb over the 64mb on the other one).

i would get the 5002wlmi it has the amd turon procceser. it is 10$ more then the 1691WLMi and it performs really good it has the widescreen 512 and 60 gb hard drive plus it will support the new windos vista. it is very quick and great for multi tasking the battery life is good at a little over 3 hours with the screen at half brite and wi-fi on i am pretty happy with the 5002 wlmi and i would reccomend it :)

Well Vista will release a 32-bit version also. The whole world isnt going to jump into 64-bit OS right away. Plus the release date is very far off. Also with the release of 64-bit computing, software still isn't developing for mainstream 64-bit as of now. If you jumped into a 64-bit system now, by the time Vista actually does come out and by the time you actually go out & buy it... your system may be news already and may not be up to par to run it the way you'd like it to. It'll run WinXP 64-bit now, but who knows in a year's time. WinXP will still be around for quite some time. If you want a 32-bit computer, I suggest you get one. Nothing wrong with a 64-bit, but I wouldn't buy it just to get ready for Vista because it's no where near "around the corner".
