After a power failure I rebooted the laptop and was unable to get past the BIOS readout. All drives are recognised by the BIOS and I get the message Press F2 to enter set up however none of the keyboard keys appear to work.

Pressing F2, F8, F10, F12 or Ctrel, Alt, ESC after power up has no effect.

I am unable to boot from the system or recovery CD's supplied by Acer or a XP boot disk.

removing the battery and runing mains poer also has no effect.

Has anyone encountered this problem and if so how can it be fixed?

Where is the CMOS battery on this machine?
