I don't see one here so I'll start. First a few answers to what many people will say:

    Yes, it's expensive. I don't care, it's a toy.
Yes, it's going to be outdated within a year or two. Again, I wanted this ground breaking toy.
Yes, it's big and heavy. I like it like that. I can't wait for my next LAN party, everyone sets up their laptops and I drop this big boy on the table and declare "I win!". BTW, one of my friends had the largest with his Titan 18 incher.

I'll post photos as soon as I can resize them.

I weighed the laptop while in the case and that whole package comes to 56.8 pounds! Got to find a better way to transport this thing. I don't want to have to carry that to some of the places I go play at!

Also, the X band thing for the power adaptors is pretty useless. Once the power bricks are put in it's difficult to get them back out and the case wasn't cut for the X band plus bricks to be stored. So you have to take them out to transport in the case.

I think the Eurocom 780W power brick could work with an adapter. Would save space and hasstle

The difference between the Acer 21x and the MSI/Clevo's that Eurocom 780w PSU fit is that the Acer 21x has 2 power inputs on the laptop.

IDK if plugging in to 2 with a higher power PSU will be enough, or if those 2 inputs feed 2 completely different portions of the laptop, which might make a cable splitter from the Eurocom PSU problematic.

If I had a 21x I'd ask Acer before trying an experiment on my own, with $11,000 worth of hardware :)

I did not know it had two inputs, LoL. I assumed they had a splitter like the Clevos...

You would think a company investing so much into an unprecedented one-of-a-kind laptop would just make a single 600W adapter of their own

Acer only had the 330w PSU available, just like MSI, Asus, Clevo, etc, so that's what they used.

The PSU vendors are supposed to do innovation in that area, IDK why they are so slow in coming out with higher power PSU's.

Using the Eurocom 780w PSU as an example, perhaps it's too diffcult and costly to come out with an affordable PSU over 330w - the change in approach to deliver more power requires more expensive design / components.

It will be interesting to see what eventually comes out to power all the new power hungry CPU and GPU components :)

Seriously, anybody got any ideas for a smaller carry bag for this thing, other than the overly large and heavy travel case?

Technically, "smaller" can't really be used in conjunction with this massive laptop :D

I think you'd do well to find a custom luggage shop and ask them to build a custom soft or hard case for easy carry. Maybe a shop that makes custom boogie board cases would have experience with similar size and form factor cases.

It's a reason that Acer designed a large suitcase you could use for travelling. Aka they thought about maximum portability :p

Well, smaller compared to the wheeled monstrosity that the "laptop" came in. I'll check around and see about the custom luggage. That was a good idea! Thanks!

If the inside of the case were actually designed better, it would all fit on one level and not be so darn big. That would be another option to consider, I guess.

I got a reply back from South-Pak and they can do a custom job. But they did some research and the case that the 21X ships in is a Pelican 1650 case. After looking inside it again, I don't think a smaller case will do. The laptop takes up almost the entire footprint except for a two inch buffer all around it.

I do however think I'll order the Pick a Size foam inserts and reconfigure it to allow the power bricks to be stored in the holder as one unit and then I'll have space for accessories.

Bearseusa is only taking orders for lots of 250 and up. I just need one.

I do a bit of backpacking, and it occurs to me that it may also be worth considering a framed backpack. A properly supported backpack can easily take the weight (and not bother your back as they can take up to 75lbs typically)

Simply modify the main compartment with foam inserts. I think it may be more convenient to through it on your back than wheel it around

Another good idea. Thanks. I'll take some measurements and see if I can find one that it will fit in. Also, backpacks have pockets for power supplies and accessories!

Full size.jpg Still working on a more portable carry case. Will update when I find something. Now to the next thing. I noticed fingerprints on the lid from opening and closing it. So I took a microfiber cloth and some Windex. Now I have this. Any suggestions?

    OK, I'll try that.

Now, I found a soft case that I think would hold the laptop, power bricks and a mouse. Problem is they want over $500 for it. I also found several hard cases, but they either cost several hundred dollars or they don't save on the weight of the original case. So for now I'm back to looking at carry on luggage and backpacks.

Wow, expensive and heavy, great combo's :)

But, for something that large to be solid and protective, that's about right.

Maybe a sling bag maker can make a light weight but strong sling case to spec for you? A simple over the shoulder sling carried under the arm would be light and unobtrusive, but you'd need to get used to the heavy carry on one side.

When it gets that big, it's almost like it should be it's own protective case, with a handle and a clip on/off sling band. :)

Can't be the whole truth. Stock 6700K in P870DM2 reviewed by Anandtech.com with more normal Cinebench R15 scores. My own 6700K wasn't delidded when I bougt my P870, and the CB scores was correct as well for stock clocks.

With power bricks in zipper pocket (1280x720).jpg Here with the zipper closed and power bricks inside the pocket. Mouse and power cords are inside with the laptop. There is about 1 inch free space on long side and about 1 1/2 inch free on the short side. Much lighter and easier to carry around!

such a shame, had they gone socket hardware this would be less obsolete. 6 cores cpu this yr, 8 cores cpu 2nd half of next year, this laptop stuck at 4 cores forever along with a dead end mobo.

it'll be nice if acer decided to update the insides of this machine with a new mobo, heatsink redesign and all socketed hardware, thats a buy for me if it happens, big IF.

thats correct, and thats the fault and greed on intel's part. however it doesnt change fact that acer can easily go MXM with a possible upgrade to next gen GPU, offer more storage bay in that giant chassis and using a desktop CPU and still have room to cool it, while charging the same amount, even if cost more it is justified with 2-3x cpu performance.

now we know this is acer's first time and some of us were really hoping they'll take feedback and make the next laptop real high end. so we did go over some details with their marketing team but doesnt look like they will listen so there we have it, comes down to onetime thing as an advertisement for their company.

looks like acer aint gonna prolong the life of 21x simply it cost too much to manufacturer. im sure they could but finding sales again might be tough. this laptop forever stuck with 4c BGA unless acer decide to renew it with 6c BGA, then desktop LGA getting 8 cores soon.. forever lag behind.

kinda pointless at this point, its stuck with a 4 core CPU and a GPU that can't be upgraded. we are getting zen2 in a few months which can go up to 16 cores. im most likely going to go thread ripper 32 cores this year so laptop is done business for me.
