Ok, i have doing research all day, so here it goes!![]()
I have a Acer Aspire 3690. It has a Intel Celeron 420 M @ 1.60 Ghz with 512 RAM (Recently updated to 2 GB)
Now I am pretty sure this is compatible with mine: ( Here)
(NewEgg seems to be having problems with the website, just fyi, unless it is my computer)
It is a Intel Core Duo T2300 @ 1.66 Ghz. Now I have been wanting to know if the SOCKET is correct. Now according to NewEgg, it says it is a Socket M. Now according to utilities I have been running it says mine is a Socket 479.
So I looked that up and it turns out is it is basically a 478 (478 Pins) but they just said 479 for differentiating. And I have heard that Socket M and 479 are NOT the same and i have heard that they are, because sites such as NewEgg dont have Socket 479 processors cause they are actaully Socket 478 Processors.
So anyways, i wanted to look up the package type to help me identify. My Package is a Micro-FCPGA. Now the one I want to get is a Micro-FCPGA as well. Now NewEgg doesn't tell you this.
So i found this place: ( Here)
They called there Socket a: Socket 479 Pin.
Then i scroll down and it says: The Intel Core Duo Processors are available in 478-pin Micro-FCPGA and 479-ball Micro-FCBGA packages. This is 478-pin Micro-FCPGA package. Model: BX80539T2300.
So now I know that 478 Pin = MicroFCPGA (Mine) and 479-ball Micro FCBGA isn't mine. It also gives me the model number for the one i need. (Micro-FCPGA). I don't want to order from this site as NewEgg is a little cheaper and more "trusted" i guess you could say. So i figure I compare the Model Number of this product with NewEgg.
Turns out it MATCHES!! WOOT!.
BUT... Here is my chipset Series: Mobile IntelĀ® 945GM/PM/GMS and 940/943GML Express Chipset Family ( Here)
Now I ASSUME since in my device manager it says under System Devices: Mobile Intel 945GM/PM/GMS/940GML and Intel 945GT Express Processor to DRAM Controller - 27A0
and under Display Adapters (don't kno if it matters): Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Memory
Now I assume that my chipset "Supports" Intel 945GM, 945PM, 945GMS, 940GML, and Intel 945GT. so according to Here, the diagram for 940GML is an Intel Celeron Mobile Processor, which is what i currently have now. Now most of the other Chipsets (945GM, 945PM, 945GMS, 945GT) show a Intel Core Duo processor in their diagrams (i think one or two show a Solo processor). The Intel Core Duo is the one I want to get.
So my question is, does it seem like my Computer will support it? Acer's Support site isn't that great so that didn't help me much.
Maybe you can reccomend me NOT to get the processor (maybe a Celeron M is better than an Intel Core Duo for all i know, but IMO i doubt it as it has two cores), but you never know!
If you guys need more information to be able to give me any suggestions (lol), just ask! I'll do my best to find it for ya!
Thanks for anybody that helps or has suggestions!![]()
