    Hello everyone,

I just wanted to share my upgrading experience with the Aspire 5720-6200 15.4" laptop that I purchased from Staples in January 2008. It may be similar to the Aspire 5920, but with less powerful graphics and cpu.

I decided to upgrade the internals to hold me over before my next purchase. I have been reading extensively and waiting patiently for the yet to be released Acer Timeline X and the Asus N82. I prefer the N82 for its USB 3.0.

This thread will be updated with results and whatnot as I install the new components.

    Here were the stock components:
    Intel C2D T5250 1.5ghz, 667 FSB
    2gb DDR-2 533mhz ram
    Nvidia 8400m GS GPU
    160gb 5400rpm Hitachi HDD
    Bios V1.42

Here are the components that I've purchased to install:
    Intel C2D T5850 2.16ghz, 667 FSB Installed (ebay)
4gb DDR-2 533mhz SODIMM Crucial ram Installed (newegg)
Nvidia 8600m GT GPU Installed (ebay)
500gb Hitachi Travelstar 7200rpm HDD Installed (newegg)

    Currently Installed:

I've currently installed the T5850 cpu but I can verify that it does work and CPU-Z identifies it properly, with the correct speed. It even downclocks the multiplier to the proper 1ghz for power saving mode, just as the T5250 did. The T5850 uses a 6x multiplier to get to 1ghz and a 13x multiplier to get to 2.16ghz with a 166mhz bus speed.

*Thinking about other CPUs*....The motherboard is based on a PM965 which is rated to 800mhz. Therefore, another socket p (fcpga) 667mhz or 800mhz FSB cpu should theoretically work at it's rated speed.

    Check out these compatible CPUs:
