Just found this and was wondering if it can be used in a regular minipcie slot. With every connector of course.

Or something like letting the X-FI chip doing all the work , processing etc. and lead the output through existing onboard audio.

    http://www.creative.com/oem/products/modules/minimodule.asp

There is a REAL X-Fi chip on board not those lower end ones used in usb and pcmcia solutions.

That doesn't look right. The board looks so out of proportion unless thats not the true board.

What do you mean with desktop one ? .. desktop pcie x1 does not look like this.

it really looks kinda out of shape :) but nevertheless more like a notebook card.

If this could work it would be really GREAT ... my onboard audio sucks. Only with X-Fi MB its okay. But i dont want to pay 35$ for only software.

Yes you are right, here what it is: PCI Mini Card. Take a look at the comparison picture between PCI Mini Card and PCI Express Mini Card (that our laptops are using). Yeah, on-board audio s**k, but a proper audio controller costs a good $200 or a bit more - Echo Indigo DJx (for example).

No I haven't, but I read somewhere that the old version (ExpressCard 54) of Creative's laptop X-Fi is better than the new one (EC34), but I don't know if it has a chip in there.

I have the 54mm version, and it isn't a real X-Fi. It also emits a large amount of heat, and doesn't come with connectors for analogue 5.1 speakers(They need to be purchased separately and from what I heard cost about 20€ ;) . In general, I am disappointed with it :(.

mhh then it´s not better than onboard audio with Xfi MB and my NB is hot enough, i dont need another heat source :) Seems like i have to pay creatives extraordinary prices

Try other companies? After studying a few Creative sound cards in my electronic acoustics class, I see why people have said that Creative uses some really cruddy quality components. I tend to stay away from their products now...

i do not know any other ones that produce notebook cards exept the one triturbo mentioned.

I had some time so i installed daniel_ks modded realtek driver and played a little bit around with foobar added some dsps disabled the crappy realtek equalizer. Now it sounds really great on my headphones, better than my old audigy. Havent tried the speakers as of now.

I think that shows that there is big potential in driver writing. Realtek should really start doing something about that.

Speakers are fine also. Had to fiddle with gain but now its good. Especially a dsp called Noisesharpening brings a really clear sound to speakers and headphones. Altough this is not systemwide i´m really happy with the sound now :D

Try other companies making laptop sound cards..... Shame they dont exist. The last card to have a dedicated chip with the Audigy 2 ZS notebook.
