    Hello friends!
First let me introduce myself and apologize for my level of English. My name is Jose and I read from Spain.
Secondly I would like to make a small question:
I have an acer 5920g with the 8600 256 ddr2 running for "the oven trick" and I received a mobility HD 3650 ddr3 512 from hongkong but after installing it does not turn on the screen.
I updated the Bios with the latest update from Acer (3813) and also with the Bios mods (.NetRoller 3D) but I have not gotten it to work.
    What I can do?
    Thank you very much.

Update the VBIOS on the card.

My SBIOS mod doesn't help "fake MXM" cards (that are physically MXM, but logically onboard), which AFAIK includes all ATI/AMD cards (and some newer Nvidias).

Thank you for your answer. NetRolller 3D
But is there any way to update the VBIOS with the black screen? I mean by cd or usb.

Yes; format a USB drive for DOS boot, put atiflash on it, and use autoexec.bat to force atiflash to run on boot. Remove the HDD to make the BIOS boot from USB.

Also, try plugging in an external monitor.

    Thanks again for your answer.
I tried to put an external monitor but does not work.
I'll search the new rom for this card and proves update.
I will share my experience when finish.

It wont hurt if you first check what is written on the memory modules and search the web. You have to be sure that it's 512MB DDR3, because I'm not very sure that there is such thing. I know about 256MB DDR3, 512MB DDR2 and 1GB DDR2. There could be 512MB DDR3, but it's highly likely to be MXM-like, but not a real MXM. If you find that it's 512MB DDR2, my old vBIOS is around the forum.

@triturbo: Flashing a 256MB DDR3 BIOS is safe; the VBIOS reads the memory amount from the card, it's not hardcoded.

Also, all ATI VBIOSes (at least those that I know of) are fake-MXM. The challenge is finding a VBIOS that can drive the internal display without using the MXM structure.

Sure thing, but what if it's actually DDR2? That's what bothers me. He could have a damn RARE GPU, because I don't know of its existence, since there wasn't 1Gbit GDDR3 chips back then, or they were pretty expensive to put them on a mid-range GPU. He could have been tricked just like me, loooong time ago, when I did my very first upgrade and it was exactly this one - HD3650 512MB. Seller claimed that it's DDR3, but it was actually DDR2 :( Well, in the end, it did what it's supposed to for quite some time, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

Do you want to play games, or you just need a working laptop? There are few options:

Working laptop - HD3470, HD3650 - whichever you find cheaper.
Gaming - HD3650 256MB GDDR3, ASUS GT 240M (rare, if you manage to find it, it's among the best performers), Toshiba HD4650 (you'll need to solder some stuff, .NetRolller 3D knows better what you'll have to do, on par with GT 240M, there are few on eBay).

HD3650 for gaming? Seriously? (9600M GT is the minimum I'd recommend.)

I could use some help, too. I own one hell of a machine, Acer Aspire 8530, initialy it had a "discrete" crossfire HD 3200 (igp) & mxm card, ati mobility hd 3450. I decided to upgrade to 3650. It's working perfect, good temps, no problems. Now I have the oportunity to upgrade (again), but with a nVidia card. I already tried installing it, but BIOS doesn't detect it, neither the OS. The video card has been tested on a Acer Aspire 5720 and it works like a charm. What do I have to do to make it work on my machine?

@.NetRolller 3D - Well, if he's on a budget, does the trick. I got one for $40 half a year ago for spare GPU :) 9600M GT is an option as well, but if I'm about to spend money, I'll go for something more (GT 230M, GT 240M, GT 330M, HD4650, even HD4670, there were few around the forum, but as soon as someone says "I'll take it", the topic disappears).

@nigh7ang3l - It's probably conflict between the two GPUs. If you manage to disable the 3200, the other could work.
