    Hi,

I try to find informations concerning cpu upgrade for an Acer Aspire 7720G.
    Actually, it works with a T5450 (667 Mhz / PPGA478) and I would like to upgrade it with a T8100 (800 Mhz / BGA479, PGA478).

I can give you these indications concerning my laptop :
There is a socket difference between these two processors.

We can see that T5450 and T7700 are fully compatible... but there are some differences with T8100 and I don't know if it will work or not and if I will have some modifications to do (bios ?) in order to use a T8100 in my laptop.

    Thanks.

Hello CMPunk, and welcome to the forums!

There actually isn't a socket difference between the T5450 and the T8100: both use Socket P and will happily work in your 7720G, provided the BIOS is updated to include the data needed to identify the T8100.

The confusion stems from that product info - Sockets 478, 479, M, and P all have 478 pins, so "PGA478" can refer to any one of them. Not sure where you got your information, but Wikipedia actually has one of the better pages on the subject.

The T8100 I found is a SLAYP. It use Socket P according to wikipedia ( thanks for the link :) )

    I found informations here :
    Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T5450 (2M Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB) with SPEC Code(s) SLA4F
Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T8100 (3M Cache, 2.10 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) with SPEC Code(s) SLAP9, SLAPS, SLAPT, SLAUU, SLAVJ, SLAXG, SLAYP, SLAYZ, SLAZD

So if the "Processing Die Size" and the "# of Processing Die Transistors" are different, it is not important ? the processor will work perfectly ?

Else, could I use my 667 MHz memory without problems with the T8100 (800 Mhz) ? I think yes but I prefer having a confirmation :p

Yes. Different CPUs have different number of transistors. It doesn't affect you.

    It's going to work fine.
