    Hello,

Is it possible to upgrade my Intel Core 2 Duo T7100?

    I have a Acer Aspire 5720G.

The program "PC Wizard 2008" says I have a Intel GM965 chipset.

I thinking to upgrade to a Intel Core 2 Duo T7800.

Or has anyone has a better suggestion?

    THX!!

When did you buy your notebook ?

For putting in penryn will need a BIOS upgrade if bought earlier than january.

GO for either the T8300 or the T9300 (since it is just $60 more than the T8300)....the T7800 would drop straight into your laptop even without a BIOS upgrade, but you wont see much of an overall improvement except in CPU-intensive tasks....!!
Your laptop should be able to support Penryns due to the fact that in another thread guys have upgraded from celerons to penryn-3Ms....so there should be no problem in you case..I guess
So do check for a BIOS upgrade and see if their is an upgrade available that was made after JAN 2008.... :)

I think it was February that I bought the laptop. I have now BIOS version 1.40. That's the latest of the Acer site.

So I think that's ok then.

Where did you get the price for a T8300 and T9300 from? So where can I buy them?

Why not a T9500 instead of the T9300?

    Thx

    The T8300 is a 2.30 Ghz, 3Mb L2
    The T7800 is a 2.60 Ghz, 4Mb L2

    Isn't the T7800 better then?

    thx

If spending $300 is not much of an issue for u go for the T9300....it is exceptional value for money as compared to the T9500..!!
The T7800 will set u back around $500....which is same for the T9500..!!

So you would be much better off with the $240 T8300 or the $320 T9300....since Penryns run cooler and provide longer battery life due to their 45nm architecture....whereas the T7800 is from the older Merom generation and is still very costly.. :)
If you can get a good, cheap, used cpu from ebay, go for that....but dont go for the meroms, since you wont see any significant increase in overall performance with them..!!

I depends on what are your needs - performance/battery live. T8300 is 45nm processor, less heat, more battery life. As for the performance - T7800 is should be slightly(hardly notable) more powerful.

    T8300 is a 2, 40Ghz, not 2,30Ghz.

Intel has been adopting a peculiar marketing strategy. As far as performance goes, there is less bridge between the T7700 and T7800 and the T9300 and the T9500.

The advent of T7800 and the upcoming T9600 is very simple yet interesting:

    The T7800 clocks 2.6 GHz, T7700 clocks 2.4
    The T9500 2.6, T9300 2.5

    T9600 2.8, T9400 2.53

The extreme processors are built on a higher TDP and need a specially designed heatsink. So the T7800, T9600 are to act as the "extreme" processors for the normal laptop seekers who need better processing power, but not a gaming rig.

Not to mention, the T9500 failed to realise this aspect.

    Just a personal thought.

The T7800 goes around $500 and the T7700 at around $300. It is not worth the extra 200 bucks. The T9300 appeals to me as a "desktop level scorcher". :)

The best fit to your your needs will be T8300. If you want more power, then get the T9300. Don't even think about T7800 or the T9500. It will be a waste of your hard earned money.

    Ok then!

I see, you all (most guys) say I'll have to take the T9300. Mabye I will. Only problem (mabye also not a problem). I can get a T7800 (used) for $50.

So I think I'm going to do that. Because I don't use the laptop so much on the battery.

    Thx a lot people!
