    Hello all :)

Read a lot of the topics on here and never really needed to post anything till now.

I'm (hopefully) going to upgrade a few things.

Currently I have 2 indetical laptops dell 9400, 2 years old and well getting a bit 'done' used every day for at least 8H in weeksn around 12 so under a lot of stress.

I bought the Toshiba X300 myself
and for my girlfriend the Acer Aspire 8930G-584G32Bn

Now I'm looking to upgrade both.

X300 currently holds a T9400, would like to upgrade it to the QX9300. Shouldn't be a problem I think, saw the X300 fitted with this processor (but with 2X 9800GTS instead of 1x 9800 GTX.

But for the acer I'm absolutly not sure what I can do with that one..

Acer link from the store I bought it from:
    http://www.cdiscount.com/informatiq...20X041.html?prix=discount&trilist=0&numpage=1

    Sorry it's in French.

Anyway I have 2 free processors, the T7400 comming from my 2 old dell's or the T9400 coming from the X300.

Could they be fit into this one? if no what processors can I put in the acer.

Upgrading the HD from the 5.4k init right now to a 7.2K would that be ok? heatwise?

any help would be greatly appriciated.

    Welcome to NBR.

    T7400 won't work(it's a socket M Merom) but T9400 should work just fine.

    T7400 vs T9400 - T9400 should run cooler...
    T5800 vs T9400 - again T9400 should run cooler..

    Good up then :)

Corewise 1 core of the QX9300 is as fast as the T9400?

Play a lot of games, strategy most not multi core so power per core is most important unclocked does 1 core of the QX9300 perf the same/better then the T9400

Well yeah but QX9300 is overclockable as far as I know though BIOS limitation and/or other factors can prevent this. I'm not really into this stuff so I might be wrong.

By the way....are you 100% sure that you can upgrade the T9400 to QX9300? C2D to Quad? I'm not sure about that..maybe it's a good idea to ask about it in the Toshiba forum.

hmm well I was pretty sure, asked some dealers who were selling the QX9300 if it was possible and they said Yes.. but this might not be the best source.

I based it on that there is a X300 available with the QX9300 in it, same motherboard, same system only difference is the Graphic card and the processor 9800 GTX X2 , instead of the GTX

I'm asking because, for example, there are some newer Aspire 8930G which come with Q9000 but if you bought Aspire 8930G with C2D you CANNOT upgrade to a quad CPU!

I don't know if the same apply in all situations like this, Toshiba laptops might be different that's why I suggested you make a separate thread about it in the Toshiba forum.

just be sure before I buy a 400-500 Euro chip ;)

in any case the Extreme duo X9000 ? should be no problem?
