I've had my aspire for almost two years and besides the screen going out (fixed under warranty) and I want to upgrade it a little. I already upgraded the memory to 2 gb. I'm looking to upgrade the processor. I have an AMD Turion 64 mobile technology ML-30 / 1.6 GHz,Chipset type SiSM760GX. What can I do to make it a little faster? ;)

I am not sure about the CPU upgrade. But you can either try a ML-40 or a ML-44, or the lower TDP MT-37 or the MT-40. Link (Dual-Core Turions won't work, as they have a different socket - S1)
If they work, your notebook is bound to get fast, as AMD CPUs do provide a performance boost with the extra cache, expecially in Intensive Tasks.

I am not sure, if it will work or not. Update your BIOS to the latest version, before upgrading....and try a cheap CPU first, to test the compatibility.

Caution: Advance at your own risk !!

Your cpu socket is the socket 754 so the ml44 should be fine

Technicaly you should also be able to use:
    Mobile Athlon 64 3700+ (2.4ghz & 1mb cache)
    Mobile Athlon 64 4000+ (2.6ghz & 1mb cache)

both have a higher DTP of 62w. I think with artic silver 5 and RMclock both the 3700+ and 4000+ should work fine... I mean maybe since the bios may not recognise them

If it was me I'll get one of the above from ebay and test with it. If it doesn't work you could always sell it back.

The ML44 should be as powerful as the 3700+.

If you're not tempted to experiment and you're looking for a cool and silent laptop the MT40 is your best bid.

Thanks for the helpful info. I think I'll try the ML-44. I will make sure the bios is up to date and pick up some artic silver along with a ML-44.

If somehow all is lost, it will give me a reason to buy a new laptop after all these years.....but I hope it goes well....

    Hi,

My Acer Aspire 5000 is running real hot.
If I upgrade from a 1.6GHz to a 2.4, will my computer get hotter?
