    I have a Acer 5100-3357 with a AMD Turion
    MK-36 processor. Can I upgrade to a dual core AMD X2.
    Can anyone help with this.

    download cpu-z if it is socket S1 yes - if it is not, no (unless you want to go to a faster single core)

    you may need a bios update with a dual core chip.

    I believe the MK line of processors is indeed socket S1, so you can upgrade to any X2 cpu, be it the TL or TK series.

    The only other socket that Turions were ever on was 774 and that used purely the ML/MT series.

    As the others have told you it is ok to upgrade your turion MK to a turion x2 TL or TK as the MK, TL and TK lines all use socket S1.

    Your BIOS should be fine as well since all aspire 5100s use the same BIOS which will recognize any current socket S1 processor.
