I am not sure if they are specific to motherboards or chipsets....u can check it on your motherboard....it will be a black rectangle chip soldered to the MB with ICS and a few nos.
or u may get hold of ur laptop's service manual and go through its jumper diagram for details....

in the pic above one may see that the clock generator chip is just besides the cpu and the fan on the keyboard side of the MB....Probably all shud luk like that....
[And do keep in mind....overclocking or undervolting is dangerous....can blow up ur cpu or make ur MB go up in smokes....I am playing around because I am planning to upgrade the MB....]

I tried Cpucool using ICS 954310 as pll, anyway something works strangely, probably it is not the right pll. Each time i open the program it reports strange and different fsb, as 32, 56 and so on. Anyway, once i tried raising it in proportion: meaning, i had 56 and i raised it to 69.9 (i simply divided 56 by 133 then multiplied for 166) and it worked ! My T5200 ran @2000 Mhz (166*12) at a stable temp of 50 celsius, just the system became unstable after some minutes, ending with the blue screen of death. Probably also because i didnt set a different voltage. Well, interesting experience, i dont think dangerous for the 50 degrees that reachs the cpu, because once at the normal clocking with the stressing program 'Intel thermal analysis tool' it reached 80 degrees and more, without problems. I keep here the result of the T5200 running @2000, 1M in SuperPi calculated in 29 seconds
So angad did you use ICS 954310 too in your Aspire 3680 ? -
Probably later I ll just upload some screenshots or a video of my overclocking....
My PC got flipped up this morning I dont know what settings I had done to manipulate the Voltages....now the voltage bracket just doesnt come between 0 and 5 but comes between 2 and 4....as if it is a desktop..!! -
Okay Back, and from the looks of things I'm gonna want to go back an see what you guys have been working on!
.
PS: lol fixed my 3680 by wiping and reinstalling vista. -
Welcome Back Mate....What was going on with ya....Trojan Party..!!

Got a new low today
Was working on ma asignements in Word and the temperature dropped down to 35*C....had reduced the FSB speed to 100MHz and the throttle to 75%....maybe the throttle did the trick but it made the PC a bit sluggish....and got a battery life of just below 3 hrs[a minute or 2 less]....(on a celeron)
wicked..!!

im back
so what have missed lads
oops. manners and ladies xxx -
that and a whole load of service guide requests...

Too much good work still to do man

Okay guys, I was able to sucessfully install a T5300 into my Aspire 3680-2633, and it worked! Now my main concern is the temperature readings. According to PC Wizard 2008, my "CPU Temp" is 48 C, and my Core temps are both reading about 60 C - this is while idle. These are higher temps than when the Celeron was in the machine...but it doesn't actually feel that hot on the bottom. Any ideas on what I could do about this? Should I open it up again and maybe re-seat the heatsink/reapply the arctic silver?
And also, I got an after market internal bluetooth adapter that supposedly works with this model. I went ahead and plugged it into the board, and the little blue light did come on when I booted the machine up, but it didn't seem to actually see a bluetooth device. I think part of the problem is that the little bluetooth switch on the front of my laptop is loose, and not actually attached to any switch on the motherboard now (it felt like it was before, now its not somehow.) Anyone install a bluetooth device like this before? And where did you actually place it inside the machine? I can't find a good spot.
Thanks in advance! -
where are you getting those temps???
what program?? if the laptop feels cooler now.... then it is cooler now!!
you might check the UNDERVOLTING GUIDE found it the HARDWARE FORUM
not too familur w/ that bluetooth.. does it show up in the device manager?
later,
bigO -
Temps are coming from PC Wizard 2008. Is there a different program out there that will give me my temps?
It felt cooler on bootup, but now after idling for a while it feels kinda hot.
I will definitely take a look at the undervolting guide, though I don't know if that will do anything for me at this point.
In my device manager, it says "Bluetooth Devices" and if you click and expand that it says "Bluetooth Bus Enumerator." No clue what that is haha.
The processor also says its running at 800 mhz, but when I open stuff up and put any kind of load on the CPU it jumps up to 1.73 ghz, which I think this processor is supposed to do, so I guess thats working! -
it monitors TEMPS shows current CPU USAGE% and CPU speed... and it allows you to undervolt the CPU... less power means less heat!!! and the 600Mhz speed jumping to FULL speed under load is the SPEEDSTEPPING feature of the Core3Duo CPUs
the fact that the BLUE TOOTH shows in device manager is a GOOD thing... sounds like it just needs the correct frivers installed.
later,
bigO -
Yeah, I did a little bit of the undervolting, haven't noticed a temperature change yet. Maybe i messed up the CPU sensor or something when I installed the new processor. I'm gonna re open the thing up tomorrow and mess around with it a bit more, see if I did anything wrong.

About the bluetooth device, surely the activate button isnt aligned anymore with the internal switch (it happened the same to me when i changed my cpu). You have to open again the laptop and be sure that both the wifi and bluetooth buttons are correctly aligned with the internal switches.
-
well u ll notice a considerable decease in temps after applying AS5 properly....and when refitting the motheboards....keep those sliders that are on the front of the case to the far left so that they fit into the switches properly....
i am not sure but the BT device is installed somewhere near the heatsink not very far from it....saw it on an acer 5570....checkout the internal motherboard layout of the 5570-5580 (the ram side)....they came with pre-installed BTs....!! -
Today I dismantled the laptop again and reapplied AS5 and all that fun stuff. I did find out that I accidently broke off the little bluetooth button as displayed in the picture I'm attaching here - so I guess I won't have any internal bluetooth after all
(Unless I can find the part, remove the broken one, and solder a new one into its place.)
Right now I'm going to spend the next few days cycling the computer on and off for a few hours at a time to help break in the arctic silver as they recommend on their website.
With the speedstep technology, should I just leave that as is or is it better to turn it off (if possible?)
And also, the front of the bottom part of the laptop, where the bluetooth/wifi buttons are and the audio jacks, it doesn't seem to be snapping in with the top half of the casing just right, any tips to make this fit snuggly again? Thanks all!Attached Files:

oops
tricky job -
and for undervolting go through this guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824
well while fitting the laptop mobo back....raise the mobo from the monitor side and lower it at the audio jack side giving it an angle of 45*....then calmly try to fit the audio jack holes in to the sockets at the front of the notebook (the headphone jack, etc.). then lay the back of the motherboard....i had a problem refitting it but during the dissembly process u shud never be coming at the point that u have to jerk or hammer the mobo in or out....that cud be bad..!! -
Yeah, I figured the BT switch was unfixable. I don't know where the little part that sticks out even went when it broke off, so I can't glue that back on. I tried to glue on another similar sized piece of plastic but it was no good - especially since the glue can actually keep the slider part from sliding. So I'll probably just get the little BT USB adapter from Mogo.
I didn't have any problems getting the motherboard to sit properly back in the case, but I might take it apart again and try reseating everything inside. Here's a pic of how the front panel part looks right now.Attached Files:

there looks like there is a gap and if it is u shud try and adjust the motherboard....

Apologies for sounding like an old man but I had a travelmate 291 for five years and carried it around almost daily. Its lid was scratched rather badly as I just put in my backpack with the books (there were no sleeves or at least I didn't heard of them) but it worked flawlessly the whole time.
When it was locked at 600mhz I could surf the web without the fan spinning at all. Ah, those were the times... -
still use it every day with its cute little hdd 40gb. bless
and the wife loves it.she has an emulator for old sega games on it. it just keeps going. love it -
I have uploaded a copy of the acer 3680 5570 5580 service manual to my geocities host. please keep in mind that only one copy can be downloaded per hour...here is the link...
http://geocities.com/bigred850/aceraspire3680_5570_5580_service_maual.pdf
i have a 4.2mb an hour limit on my free account so if you get a page error...try again in an hour. it will reset and you will be able to download it then. any questions? -
does anyone know if the acer 5580 notebook uses the SATA or IDE/PATA for the hard drive interface?
-
check the FRU section of the user guide.... google the HDD model#'s and see if they are IDE or SATA.... that's one way to check

Hello all,
I'm back here again to get a little help with my Aspire 3680 upgrade.
I just finished tearing the whole thing apart and reassembling it to see what graphics chipset I have in my machine.
Its a: Q682943GML or 943GML chipset in my Aspire 3680-2682.
Now, accoding to wikipedia, I can use any of the following CPU's:
Celeron M, Core Solo, Pentium Dual-Core, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo
Now the question is, Vista Home Basic recognized the chipset as a 945GM, before I installed the integrated graphics driver. So, do I have the 943GML or a 945GM? With the proper BIOS/Driver, will the 943GML become the 945GM? This makes a key difference as it means a 533MHz or 667MHz FSB and 2 or 4GB of maximum RAM.
Either way, this finding means its a complete go ahead for me to get the T7200 Core 2 Duo I wanted and make this little machine fly.
And for those who are wondering why I decided to dismantle my whole laptop without the CPU on hand to upgrade its because I wanted to be absolutely sure I had the right chipset for a perfect upgrade. Also, I figured the experance of taking it apart the first time would only make things go easier the second time. It took me not nearly as long as others reported(about an hour and a half? I didn't time it!) to completely dismantle and reassemble my Aspire. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be! I must say though, this isn't for the faint of heart or the timid. You need to have a lot of confidence or daring to get this done.
EDIT: I have an M479 socket which is white. So that is good for the T7200 right? -
if it is MB.AZL06.---, then it is an i943 and if it is MB.TDX06.---, then it is an i945, reportedly no 3680 was built with the i945gm....only the 5570 and 5580 had these mobos....
if it is the i943 and the white socket....u cud technically and logically go upto a T7600....so yes the T7200 is a GO-GO for u....
Remember to update the bios first and also install the hotfix from here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=60416....
Vista and other OSs refer to it as i945gm since it is the daddy of i940gml and i943gml which belong to the PM/GM 945 family....
Since it shud be the i943....ur ram speed shud be at 533MHz....which cud be changed if u either get a custom bios built for ur laptop with the option of DRAM:FSB option enabled or u overclock the RAM....after the upgrade i guess the ratio shud be 5:8....not very sure about that....!! but with the i943 u wont be able to go over 2gig memory and 533MHz frequency....
Rest assured it shud all go well and do update on ur upgrade....Best O' Luck..!! -
Yes, I have the MBAZL06 so I have the i943. I will go ahead and purchase my new T7200 then. I am a little disappointed that I can't have the faster speeds and more RAM but then after this CPU upgrade I will have upgraded everything possible in this little machine.
I am doing everything possible to ensure compatibility with the T7200 before I drop $200 on an OEM CPU. The last thing I need is to be stuck with an expensive CPU that doesn't work when reassembled. Seems like everything is a go and I will order my processor before the weeks over and report back soon with my upgrade.
Thanks for the info! -
Alright So I've decided I'm going to invest a bit more money into this laptop before I decided to get a new one.
Projects:
Bluetooth Dongle (Got a New Samsung Blackjack in the Mail and I want that bluetooth! lol)
Ordered a T5600 on ebay for $75.
EDIT: angad1608 I added your Links to the Frontpage. Sorry for my lateness I didn't notice the PM.
EDIT 2: You only need to apply that Hotfix if your running Windows XP. Vista is Configured to Accept the New core 2 Duo.
EDIT 3: Updates to the Frontpage!. After so long. Would Appreciate it if someone could give me the code to identify the 940GML!
-
angad:
ive just given you a rep for your great work on this thread.
thanks mate -
no problem hoggie....
was really fun doing all the research....
-
and some real late nights as well -
yeah..
:yes::yes: -

EDIT: I was wondering If someone could give me a picture of the 940GML RAM Bay to to make it easier for identification. I'm putting up a pic of my 943GML. So I also need a 945GM. Please & Thank You.
EDIT 2: Updated Researchers List. -

I am trying hard these days to get my hands on the i945pm mobo but cant get a reasonable quote.... -
i searched through all 80 pages of this thread, and nowhere did i find any mention of a Aspire 3680-2022. according to PCWizard, its got the i943/940GML chipset. came with a Celeron M 430 1.73 GHz, 120 GB HDD, 512 RAM etc. i just ordered a T5300, and then i realized that no one has actually confirmed that it works on my exact model. ive taken my laptop apart many times before. would be a great help if i know if it would work before i got it.
-
it is a sticker on the ram.... like this....the upper bold sticker -
my sticker says MBTEB06003. which means its a 940 GML, but PC Wizard identified it as a 943. hopefully this update will still work, im gonna be pissed if it doesnt and im screwed out of $60 for a CPU that isnt compatible with anything i own.
-
-
~~800~~
-
well i just recieved my T5300 (insanely fast shipping from texas to wisconsin in 1 day) and im sad to report that it doesnt work
$60 down the tube. but im planning on ordering a 3680-2633 and hopefully i can get it for cheap., then i'll just trade off my laptop to my girlfriend
hopefully i can just swap hard drives with the 2633, seeing im running a Vista dual-boot on my current one. is the only thing thats different the chipset? or is there more to it than that? will i have to reinstall anything because of hardware changes if i just swap hard drives?
