Hiya,
I have read most of this thread, and have a Acer 4280 Go 7600 128mb..Chipset 950i....but still have a couple of questions.
1) I guess I can upgrade to T7200/T7400/T7600 from a 1.66Ghz......but which one will match the graphic card best ? (For maximum gaming speed, max out together)
2)After openning up my Lappy, I noticed what I believe to be a large Un-used MXM port. Could I buy a better Graphic module and insert it, and use it?
(please forget about cooling issues as I love to mod...so will sort that out somehow![]()
Thanks a Million in advance , Michal

make sure you have the newest Bios ver before you do the upgrade the T7600 will be the best option.
not sure on the mxm slot.
with the latest Bios you will have DVMT in the Bios options this will max out the graphics ram. but this depends on how much ram you have installed.
with dvmt my graphics uses 224ram. -
hi I have Acer Aspire 5570-2607
Intel Pentium Core duo T2080 1.73 GHz 533MHz 1Mb L2
Chipset intel i943/940GML
I ve got a core 2 duo t5600 cpu to upgraded but i couldn't make it to work.
The computer didn't work it
What can i do to work with this cpu? -
Eh Guys,
Thanks to Everyone who Posted info here! Very helpful!
I purchased a T7600 off an ebay store because it was actually hard to find from domestic parts suppliers, but got it for a much better price:
stores.ebay.ca/KAGA-COMPUTER
I also purchased Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound and arcticlean kit from ncix.com:
ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=10715&vpn=AS5-3.5&manufacture=ARCTIC%20SILVER
ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18558&vpn=ACN-60ML&manufacture=ARCTIC%20SILVER
I recommend using the Arcticlean kit over other methods, much easier and probably safer for equipment, old thermal compound just wipes off of heatsink and/or cpu with paper towel.
I went from a celeron m 520 1.6ghz to a core 2 duo T7600 2.33ghz! -
my notebook has bios version 3505. What's new in this new version 3508?
Is there something related to the CPU support?
Cause my cpu upgrade from core dual T2080 to core 2 duo t5600 is not working -
After some more reading looks like I should be good except I will not have the FSB 667 supprt for the memory but that is fine.
Hi All,
New here but have almost got the whole thread read since yesterday.
Good to see so many people have success with there upgrades.
I thought I read here that some people have been using a T5600 on a 943GML chipset please correct me if I am wrong. I find this thread one of the best I have ever read good work to all who started and kept it going for so long great job.
I guess I should add a little more info:
Aspire 3680-2472
As I stated above I have the 943GML chipset verified on die and sticker is MB.AZL06....
BIOS is at 1.3505
And according to the copy and paste from the first page I should be good to go with the T5600.
C/P from first page:
UPDATE
You can in fact upgrade to The Merom T7200 & T7600 that came out before the Santa Rosa Refresh.
Current Facts known:
Motherboard Model can be found on the Sticker above the RAM bay. (Find Courtesy of Hoggie)
Core 2 Duos out perform most Core Duos in performance. They also have newer Speedstepping technology to optimize battery life.
Dual-Core is Supported only by the 943GML Chipset and Above
Only works with v1.3505 bios and Above
The T5200, T5300, T5600, T7200 Are Known to Work
Socket M Celerons can switch to the above C2Ds
PC Wizard can be used for identifying your chipset
The C2Ds are easily purchased through ebay, but I recommend staying away from bids and using "Buy it now function" as long as it is under $80 USD.
Of Course if your looking to save money you can go with n4r4k's idea and get a T2080 Core Duo, which is reported to work on the Aspire 3690

Finally made it to the 111 page mark great job to all keeping this going.

First time I'm posting to this thread (I think).
I'm looking for a T5300 cheap... anyone know where to get one other than eBay? -
i hate to say it,, but EBAY is your best bet...
you may get lucky and find one cheap somewhere else, but for quick purchase EBAY cannot be beat -
Hello, I'm new here. I've just seen this forum yesterday on my Acer 3680-2574 laptop, I'm wondering if it is possible to upgrade to a Core 2 Duo from my crappy Celeron processor. Also if there's a guide on how to swap the processor, could you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.
-
yep ....it starts on page one of this thread
-
I hate e-bay... I used to have an account there ant with PayPal and closed both due to problems with my accounts being hacked/hijacked that were never resolved to my satisfaction. I did try to sign up with them again just to purchase a T5300, but never received the freaking confirmation code!
Rabble,rabble,rabble, rabble! Shenannigins!
Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks for the reply! -
Is it possible to just take the bottom part of my laptop off, instead of taking the whole thing apart? Because I haven't taken a computer apart (except my PS3) and I don't want to mess anything up...
-
Please seek professional help.
-
kennydied :
if it is a 3680 i believe the only way is to take the whole thing apart.
but it is not hard at all. anyone can do it.
4000xt -
ok then.
ill start tomorrow after i get home from shopping.
im going to get a t7200 because i heard that one is
pretty good.
also, when im taking it apart and putting it back together can i interchange all of the screws? -
EDIT: I'm not entirely sure if your computer, which is a 3680-2574, will be able to upgrade. Please check what motherboard you have.
Use this little guide please:
How To Identify Your Chipset:
If the Cover for the RAM bay is pulled off on the Ram Bay there is a sticker. The code on the stick identifies your laptop chipset.
Here they are:
MB.TEB06.003... If it starts with that it is a 940GML
MB.AZL06.... If it starts with that it is a 943GML
MB.TDX06.... If it starts with that it is a 945GML -
OK, I have some questions for you krazyphire...
Intel states that the 943GML chipset (which according to your above post is what is in my Aspire 3680-2682) is 533mhz FSB only, Celeron only.
I can see how a T5200 and T5300 can work in the board, being 533mhz FSB, but how can the T5600 and T7200 processors work since the chipset is rated @ 533mhz FSB?
Do the T5600 and above chips get underclocked because they are rated @ 667mhz fsb?
Someone on eBay has NEW T5600's with the following info on them:
Setp Code: QLED (ES Version Similar Original Code SL9SG SL9U3)... will they work on my board?
Thanks a bunch,
PG -
Firstly, avoid an ES CPU.
The 943GML does support a FSB of 667MHz, but a memory frequency of 533MHz only. So, the T5600 and T7200 will work at the rated bus speed of 667MHz, and will not get underclocked.
I have a 943GML chipset 3680 as well, and I have installed and tested a T7600 successfully, and also overclocked the FSB to 772MHz with a T5200 installed. -

Anyone know where I can buy a t7200 or a t5600 for $80?
-
FleEbay auctions....
-
-
Are you sure ?
I think it will run at 667MHz, but the RAM remains downclocked to 533MHz.

Was it really that difficult, it only took me 20 minutes to install the processor properly. Also I upgraded mine to a Intel Core 2 Duo T2450 which is 2 ghz dual core. I'm sure you weren't one of the first to accomplish this. Also I am wondering how much I could recieve for my upgraded Acer Aspire 3680. It has the processor I just explained with 1.5 gb of ram, intel graphics media accelerator 950, 80 gb hdd, dvd/cd-rw,etc, I am going to completly refurbish this laptop, new keyboard, touchpad, monitor, etc. It is an ok gaming laptop. The integrated gpu is not the best but alright, please reply, good luck everyone.
-
$200-250....
Say, if you upgrade it to 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 4965AGN, DVD-DL and a Core 2 Duo in the cheapest possible way, you'll be able to sell it near $400-450.
I just sold one. -
-
I finally bought a T5300 for my Acer... the wife wants to use it instead of having a desktop machine since she only does web browsing and e-mail (primarily), and a little gaming with Diablo II. I'll post my results when it gets here!
-
I was one of the early "alumni" of the 3680 processor upgrade (just check the first few pages of this thread!). I thought I'd come back and update.
One day I'd like to take my T5300 out and put an even faster processor in here but honestly, after I upgraded my HD to a 7200RPM HD, I cant see it getting and faster than it already is! I would highly recommend upgrading the HD to a faster speed, it made a huge difference.
I cant believe this thread is still going strong. Very cool. -
I would also like to put two of them in my new Dell Studio17 notebook! That or an SSD, if they were really affordable. I would also like to pull the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 and put in something with a 256bit memory bus (and 512mb of memory). As far as I can tell, the video in newer notebooks is in a card form and not hard soldered to the board. -
-
No, it'll run at 2000MHz.

You cannot sell like this on NBR, there is a special place to do that - NBR Marketplace. You need to fill the form and post ownership pictures, not just post the ebay link. -
I have a problem here. I have upgraded to the v1.3505 Bios on my 3680-2574, and put the T5300 into my laptop. Now when I turn it on, there is nothing shown, as my monitor is black. I can hear the fan going and the lights on the front of the laptop are active such as the WLan card light and power lights. Should I change my graphics chipset, as it is 940 gml?
-
You can check which chipset you have, by removing the heatsink and reading the code printed on the chipset die with a flashlight. If it is the 940GML, then the best CPU is T1350, and you cannot change the chipset as it is integrated into the motherboard.
-
Well I got inspired by reading this post. Im currently replacing the AC/USB power board on my 7 year old daughters Acer 3680. So as long as i have it apart I figured Id update the processor. So i picked up a T5200 on Ebay for 17$. Im replacing a Celeron M 420 @ 1.6 MHz. If this all works out ok ill drop in a new 7200 HDD on of these days and shell have something she can use for quite awhile.
-
A HDD upgrade alone will give a good boost in overall performance. The CPU upgrade will mostly improve the performance of CPU intensive tasks, such as FPS games, Video editing/encoding, image editing, etc.
-
Andy, What system did you have, A proc with FSB 667 + i943GML ?
Can you post screen shot of your system detail?
Sorry for my bad english -
-
Yes this is true..but i hope this is the only time i have to tear this thing totally apart. I can replace the HDD by taking out three screws at my leisure at some time in the future. So ill spend the 20 bucks total now even if she really doesnt need it now. -
If you go back in the thread, there are other guys who have successfully upgraded to a T7400, T5600, T5500 etc. -
-
I don't have the T7600 installed now, and I can't reinstall it because the LCD Hinge screw is jammed and I am unable to remove it.
This is a screenie I took before to post here.
This is the chipset.
-
Thx for your info... -
Remember, only 943GML supports Dual Cores. If it is the 940GML, won't work. Software won't tell you which chipset you have.
-
with Everest Lavalys, it can show what chipset that my laptop is use.
North Bridge : Mobile Intel Callistoga-G i943GML
So, is it trusted or not ? -
Which version of Everest ?
