That is the southbridge, nothing to do with the CPU. There will be a code printed on the chipset/northbridge, microscoptic in size literally. You'll need a good magnifying glass to see it.
-
Its an SL929. And you aren't kidding its small
-
Check the black squarish thing on the chipset (die). A code like Q940GML or Q945GM something will be printed....
-
q682943gml that is on the chipset
-
I just upgraded the BIOS to 1.3508 and still does the same thing
-
Your notebook boots with the old Celeron M installed ?
-
yes it still boots perfectly fine with the old processor, its just the new one it doesnt boot with
-
ok, I updated the bios to 1.3508 and it still doesnt boot up. I read in the post about someone saying they need to short the cmos jumper....I found it on the board but it isnt a jumper....how do I short the cmos on the laptop?
-
I guess that way..Not sure if CMOS reset will help you though..
-
your right it didnt work, im at a loss here on why it isnt working
-
Ok, so I'm looking to upgrade my system (3680-2576), and I have a question.
I can't enable NCQ for the SATA HD, because the system is set to IDE compatibility mode, and there is no AHCI/IDE option in the BIOS. Aside from a custom BIOS (anybody want to go splits on one to enable all of the advanced options in the BIOS?), has anybody tried using SymCMOS to change the setting?
forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=189228
I was looking to get this machine optimized for virtualization, so getting VT-x and NCQ working would be awesome.
Thanks! -
Thanks krazyphire. thanks this forums very much.
I'm successfully upgrade my toshiba A135 S4656 ( i943GML Calistoga) to Core 2 duo T5600, here is my lappy (attach files)Attached Files:

I'm very happy to see that our guide can be of use to anyone and everyone on the forums.
Make sure to keep us updated on any performance changes! -
Do you know if an Intel Core Duo T2400 will work in the system? I have a friend with a 3680-2682 with a Intel Celeron 440
eek
and I want to send him my old T2400.
Thanks in advance! -
Well, refer him to this site, and request him to have a look at the first page. So far, we have had only one failed CPU upgrade on the i943 chipset.
The 3680-2682 should have an i943 chipset (The T2400 should work with it), but its best to have a look at the RAM-bay sticker. -
Thanks for the reply. I did send him the link to this topic and had him check out the RAM bay, but he couldn't find the sticker...
-
It will be a sticker with a code MBAZL06..........
If not, then he would have to disassemble the notebook, remove the heatsink, and check the code printed on the Chipset Die.
Or just try the T2400 out, with BIOS v1.3505.... -
Thanks, I will have him look again, but if he still can't find it, I'll have him remove the keyboard and heatsink and check the code on the chipset.
-
He has MBAZL06003 under the RAM cover, so we should be good for the upgrade.
-
Yeah, upgrading to the T2400 shouldn't be a problem.
The T5600 worked for all users, so the T2400 should work fine as well. But I don't remember anyone upgrading to the T2400. (Its a long thread)
(Upgrade to the latest BIOS first) -
Cool, thanks (he has v1.3505 BIOS)!
-
wow...good job...congrate for you
-
I successfully upgraded my 3680-2576 from a Celeron M 1.6 to a Core 2 Duo T5500... seems to be working great. Thanks to everyone on this thread for sharing your experiences, gave me the confidence to try this. The disassembly video on YouTube was very useful.
The only other things I'd like to try would be adding a serial port where the printer port spacer is, and maybe add another USB port there as well, using the header for the webcam (which my model doesn't have).
Does anybody have any incite on enabling AHCI (and NCQ) for this model in the BIOS? Does 1.308 have that option visible, by any chance (I'm using 1.305)?
Thanks again! -
Uhh no. The BIOS itself seems to have the option removed. I checked the BIOS with a BIOS editor, and saw only
Serial Port: enable/disable/auto/OS-controlled....
But no option for HDD mode or SATA mode, etc....in the hidden "Advanced" menu.
There is nothing related to AHCI even in the Strings' list. -
oohoo. I sucessfully upgrade my 3680-2633 from a Celeron M 520 to a Core 2 Duo T5300 @1.73 GHZ. I might be the first to report a successful upgrade to this chip. The more popular one to use is the T5200@ 1.6Ghz. This thing is quiet and cool. When I first started it up I wondered if it was broken because the fan wasnt as loud as usual . The computer idles at 45.7 degrees celesius which is better than the celeron's 53-60 degrees celsius.
-
Hey guys, I have a 3680-2633 I'd like to upgrade. Problem is, I've taken apart PC's but I've never taken apart a laptop before... Though I'm sure I can get through it given the right tutorials.
How can I know if my laptop is eligible for upgrade? I downloaded PC Wizard, and here's my specs:
Chipset: Intel i943/940GML
Processor: Intel Pentium T2330 @ 1600 MHz
Video Card: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family
What I would like to know at this point is:
-What steps would I need to take from the moment I receive my CPU?
I'm literally a newbie at this, so detailed explanations is most appreciated... Thanks for the thread guys! -
Take a look at the first post in this thread. You need to look under the RAM cover.
-
ok- I took a look under the cover, and I have this:
MBAZL0600170709C022505
...so abiding by the 1st post, I have, 943GML.
Oh, and what are my options in terms of upgrading? I noticed quite a few people upgraded with different models (?), like T5300, T5500, etc.
I mainly use my laptop for gaming, so I would like to have the best CPU in that regard. -
T7200 or T7400 or T7600....
-
Is the T7600 a big noticeable difference from the T5300? There's a big difference in price, about 200 bucks. I'm asking because I'm looking at ebay at the moment, to see which CPU I should upgrade with. I'm pretty psyched to do this!
-
I doubt it will be noticeable unless you are doing high-end tasks like running VMs or whatnot.
-
T7200, IMO is the best 'bang for the buck' upgrade....
-
Here i found this Very good Acer 3680/ 5570/ 5580 Laptop Disassembly Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5JiBexwrzs&feature=PlayList&p=402B252351594BA8&index=1 And Acer 3680/ 5570/ 5580 laptop Reassembly Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQnxiyshIvc&feature=related

NICE, thanks for the links guys, I'll post once I upgrade with my T7200!
-
hi Codoner...
i got a A135-S4656 too and i want to ask you about this cpu upgrade
is too hard to do??
is like change a desktop cpu???
greetings -
How are the upgrades going?
-
-
Hey TeeJay why do you have PM disabled?
Anyway @Hoggie has a lot of work lately no time for NBR. Last time I heard from him was for his birthday, a few days ago.
@BigO has some stuff to do too. Don't know any details but as far as I know he's fine just has no time for NBR aswel right now. -
a couple of months later after upgrading to a t5300, my cpu fan sounds like its going out. It is rattling at high speeds during post and intensive process threading. is it time to invest 47USD back into my laptop for a new cpu fan on ebay? i need a second opinion...what are the audible symptoms of cpu fan going bad?
-
i confirmed this at a computer store with two representatives and they confirmed my suspicions...i have a 3680 manufactured in early 2007 with lots of tinkering during its life. i need to buy a new cpu fan. does anyone offhand know a vendor or website i can buy a new sunon cpu fan for my acer lappy? im bout to go back to my celeron incase the fan goes out. i can't afford 47 dollars for just a cpu fan. im running average 60 degrees Celsius between both cores...help! 10 more degrees and thermal meltdown!
-
Have you checked the fan and heatsink for excess dust? I don't know why the fan would be spinning faster than before...the Core 2 Duo processor is much more efficient than a Celeron and uses less power unless it is running at 100%.
Have you checked Ebay for the fan? $47 is way too expensive... -
I'm not familiar with Acer laptops, but if the heatsink has a thermal pad on it and it is in good condition, thermal grease isn't necessary.
Anyhow, here's a fan+heatsink combo on Ebay for $7.29 and $14.48 S/H:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170273539141 -
i opened up my laptop and checked the fan assembly for anything that would cause it to rattle and found nothing. i cleaned it as well with the standard solution and toothbrush. still same problem when back up and running. cleaned thermal interfaces and applied grease. still operating at 60 Celsius average. the part no for future reference if anyone should have the same problem is sunon part # GC055515VH-A (1.9Watts) or... acer part # 23.TB2V1.003...i can't believe the ridiculous prices for just a new cpu fan that last about a yer and a half! i have to bite the bullet and get a new fan.
-
Cheers,
Theo
And congrats on attaining Mod status!!!! -
A HAVE acer aspire 5583 wxmi....
my motherboard has burned up..
i have found a 5570z which doesnt have lcd and its a good deal...
the service told a new motherboard 350 usd plus tax....
will somebody help me if the 5570 motherboard can fit my 5583....
thanks -
I don't think mother boards are interchangeable between different models. The board will have to support your specific processor, hard drive, and other hardware.
-
I was wondering if I could use a T5750 cpu for this upgrade? I noticed it has a Micro-FCPGA socket. I have an Aspire 5570z with an MB.AZL06, I just want to know if this cpu would be compatible for me. Please help..
Unfortunately, I cannot post links, but there are some on ebay with more detail specs.
-
No, the T5750 is socket P and won't work. You need a socket M CPU.
-
ok boys im back
lets see what needs sorting out.
