    i tried the same upgrade . I have a 2480-2779.
    No go unfortunately

    my celeron is a 1.6 420

    chipset reads i943/940gml rev .03

When i put a core duo ( 1.66) and core 2 duo ( 1.5) t5200 i get no boot. No bios splash screen

Bios versions tried 1.3505 and 1.3508 from Acer Europe FTP.

Was your bios from the US site? I am a bit pessimistic and think since i have a

Cele 420 there is some MB issue or limitation

    NorthBridge : Intel i943/940GML

    CPU IDEx : 6.E.8

Read the 60 page 3680 thread . my rambay reads

    MBTEb060036511cc3f2500.

I take from that i have a 940 and the reason why i get no boot is the highest processor i can use is a t1350?

    Am i right?

unfortunatley,, that sounds like it just might be the case.... sorry about the GM940,,, those have been the downfall of a couple of people trying to upgrade... but the T1350 sounds like your only hope... maybe someone else will have a better answer,

    later,

I put that bios on. The bios scren doesn come up.

My cpu is the celeron M 1.6 (420) and its a travelmate 2480-2779.

I get the same chipset detection in hardware programs but the rambay points to a 940 chipset which seems to be limited. Unless its a bios issue and maybe corrected. I dont see any real reason why they would make any effort to do it because upgrades dont make Acer money.

the t1350 worked like a charm. To bad it stopped at 1.86. The extra cache and also power voltage stepping are good benefits making it worth the 20 bucks i spent on the cpu.

its too bad it ends with the t1350 line.

Could you post a guide on how to change the processor. I have recently purchased this processor to upgrade my laptop, but I can't seem to get the case apart to get at the processor and heat sink. Please help. I am really anxious to do this upgrade. Thanx.

Sorry to dig this up, but I was wondering if anyone has the 1.86 Celeron 440 model. It's the 2480-2698 US, and I have high hopes for this kitty's cpu. Would like to hear from someone with the same model or experience with it. I'm guessing I will have a similar issue as tommyz1052's, considering it's basically the same model, but if anyone knows for sure, that'd be great.

    Thanks!

    Laz.
