Acer Aspire 5570Z, Sales sticker reads Aspire 5570-2977
    Intel Pentium dual-core processor T2080
    (1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 Cache)
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
    1GB DDR2 (upgraded to 2 gigs, max)

I do everything with this laptop, and I'm looking for the best way to upgrade it, bang for the buck style.

One main upgrade I would like to do is the video card. My manual says that some models come with a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 128 MB of dedicated GDDR2 VRAM w/ Turbo Cache.

I apologize in advance, I know there is more info than needed in the Everest Stats, but hopefully nothing was left out that is pertinent to my issue.

Hopefully the right eyes will find this post and I can get the answers I need to successfully upgrade my laptop, thanks in advance for taking a look! :)

    Here are the Everest Stats:

    ...lol...finally over...lol...

Based on this information, what is the best upgrade for the money to get a video card and a faster CPU, and possibly, another memory upgrade?
I would like to have the best or close to the best components for this laptop.
I want to ensure that what I purchase is compatible, nothing worse than getting an upgrade in the mail and finding out it's not compatible. :p

Best bang for the buck is almost always the hard drive.

You could get an intel core solo T1350 im not sure about 667mhz FSB or dual core cpu's on that chipset.

Is that really the best upgrade this laptop could take?

Is that even much difference? that's an increase of .13 GHz

The manual I have lists some models as having 667 MHz FSB Processors, so perhaps, I don't know. I do know that the processor in this machine now is dual-core processor.

    Thanks for the reply.

While I agree upgrading the hard drive does improve performance, imho, I wouldn't say it's the best upgrade to do.

That being said, do you have any recommendations for a better hard drive for this specific laptop that would be compatible?

I'm definitely interested in upgrading the hard drive if I can find an economic solution, it's just not at the top of the list for the upgrades I'd like to do to this laptop now.

    Thanks for the reply!

no! don't upgrade to a core solo!

look for a T2500/T2600 (Core Duo) is about all you can do with your computer. it you find a T2700 or T2400 would also work, but not recommended for price and preformance reasons (respective)

GPU... I don't think you gonna have any luck there. you could buy a new notebook...

HDD's are good options as previouls mentioned...

This is reletively old tec so you don't want to sink to much money into it... to much and you might as well get a new notebook(with a decent GPU).

I would agree with ZaZ. Upgrading to a faster HDD will give you the best bang for your buck.
What HDD interface the notebook has? (IDE or SATA?)

Best CPU that is compatible is the T1350. It is more power efficient than the celeron, 'cause you can undervolt a Core Solo.

The GPU (GMA950) is integrated. You'll need to get a new mobo which comes with the Go7300 soldered, and the mobo costs around $400.

I understand with the processors, to be honest I'm more interested in having an increased cache and FSB speed if possible.

As far as the GPU is concerned, wouldn't it be a possibility to find a used model of my laptop that came with the NVIDIA Go Mobile card and taking the card out? I think I might have better luck that way searching eBay for a used laptop being sold cheap for parts.

Hard drive, what are some products I can take a look at that are compatible, how do I know what's compatible as far as HDDs?

    Thanks for the reply!

My current processor is a T2080 1.73 GHz 533 MHz FSB 1 MB L2 Cache.

Is the T1350 better, or the T2600? I can buy the 2600 for around $75, and the 1350 for, well, about $13.50 lol (not exactly but very close, and brand new instead of refurb).

    What's the deal?

If it is the T2080 installed, then the chipset is the 943GML, which supports dual-cores upto the T7600. Everest
is probably reporting the chipset wrong.

EDIT: Check out this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=206137
The AS3680 and 5570Z are from the same family. Try finding out your chipset, and then upgrade.

The sticker next to th mouse pad says it has Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. Is there any other way to track down the chipset? I'm more than willing to supply any needed information to get the answers I need. :D

    Thanks for the reply!

Have a good look at the thread I linked. It has all the info you need regarding the CPU upgrade.

Also, make sure with CPU-Z that you actually have a T2080.

I'm reading it now, thanks for the links.

From the Everest info does it look like my notebook supports SATA drives?
Can I have more than 1 internal HDD?

    Thanks again.

It does support SATA HDDs a.t. Everest.

Yeah. If you don't need the ODD, you can chuck it out, get an optical blank from newmodus and install a HDD in the optical drive bay.

Are you sure about that? I don't see anything for SATA in my control panel or in the Everest output. I see Primary and Secondary IDE, just want to make sure before I buy.

    Thanks for Reply!

For most tasks it's almost always the hard drive that is the weak link the in the performance chain as the computer waits for data to be read of the drive. Seek times, how fast data can be found, are important as well.

Thanks for shedding some light on the subject for me ZaZ. After inspecting this Everest report I can see where that can be the case.

I'm still apprehensive about my notebook supporting SATA though, anyone else want to give me their opinion?

    Thanks for the reply!

This is from the last Everest Report you posted. And the S in WD800BEV S refers to SATA. You can checkout WD800BEVS on WDC's site.

I also need to upgrade my 5570Z before I go mad!!!
Ths thing is soooo slow. Of course I am only running 1GB of some cheap RAM I never heard of and running Vista. So yes, I will get 2GB installed soon. But before I have some questions. I did read the post that was mentioned before.

If I get a T7200 CPU, does my mobo support the higher FSB?

    Thanks for help!

    Cheers
