I have purchased a mobility hd 4650 from an Acer spare parts source and intend to replace my 8600m GT with it.

The order has been shipped and will hopefully arrive within 2 weeks.

Based on this thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=381892) I should be able to simply install the card physically (I've disassembled this laptop for a processor upgrade before) and then just throw on the drivers (the device comes with the Acer vBIOS preloaded).

As far as heat issues and such go, I'm playing it by ear and hoping for success.

At first I think I'll run it downclocked, and then clock it up if the heat seems fine.

    Benchmarks and Updates to follow!

    ************UPDATE************(July 1st)

The HD 4650 spare part was cleared by acer, and it shipped today. Its coming from Germany so it should take 3-7 days.

I am buying thermal pads and the piece for the copper mod tomorrow. Already have some thermal compound.

    Ill keep everybody posted.

Looking forward for updates :D In the mean time, you can prepare yourself to make a copper mod. It made HUGE difference with mine :D And be sure that you wiped-off the nVIDIA drivers good, with something like Driver Sweeper.

Elaborate on the copper mod, please.

I am assuming its a heat sink mod?

Thank you for taking that flying leap off the edge - let us know if it's a soft landing!
Can't wait to see the benchies from this beauty.
(then all you gotta go is upgrade your hard drive, and you've run the gamut!)

    Good news!
I am curious, too -- where did you order?

Only thing I am missing is LCD upgrade -- matte dieplay with 1400 or 1650 resolution would be awesome :)

    GL with mod. Fingers crossed!

    Has somebody tried new NVIDIA® GeForce® GT240M with 1GB GDDRIII from Acer 5739G 0n 5920g or 6930g?

No, because it's MXM-A and thus incompatible with MXM-II.

Does MXM-A is a form of MXM-III type?

I wonder if anywhere 4650 or 4670 are sold... Do you know that place? And what price does it approximately cost?
