Hi, I have a 7750G here that i would wish to upgrade. The total version number is: 2678G1TBnkk. It's an aspire 7750G with following specs:
- i7 - 2670QM 2.2 GHz (modded bios Insyde H2O v1.17)
- 8 Gb ram
- 2 x 500 GB HDD
- Ati Radeon 6850M
- 1600x900 screen
What i would like to do:
- put in a 128GB SSD (any recommendations?)
- Change the screen to 1920x1080
- If possible, change the video card
For the SSD I won't need help i suppose, but can someone help me for the screen? I looked on laptopscreen.com but can't find my exact model.
Is it possible to put in a 1080p screen?
-
Yes it's possible to put a FullHD screen. Since your notebook already uses dual LVDS it won't be a problem. New LCD cable won't be needed either.
Check the sticky for service manual for you notebook (if there is one even available). -
I'm sorry to be asking such noobish questions, I know the very basic of notebooks but not really for replacing parts. All I have for experience is replacing cooling paste.
Do you have any idea what screen I would have to take or what I have to look for? The sticky said this should work: Replacement for HSD173PUW1 17.3 inch Laptop LED Screen Panel Matte WUXGA (1920x1080) Full HD - Laptopdvdrw.com .
Would it? Will I be able to attach it the same way i take of the 1600x900?
Thx! -
I pretty much have the same laptop as you only with an i5 instead of the i7. Since I've had my laptop apart i can tell you that no you will not be able to upgrade the video card. Even though it is a dedicated card, it is physically part of the motherboard. If what downloads says is right then the screen upgrade should be fairly straight forward. Laptopscreen.com will only show you the screens that came with the laptop. You will have to hunt down a 1080p screen from a similar laptop and test that out.
I have a couple questions for you though. My laptop came with an i5-2430M and i'm waiting on my i7-2670QM to come in the mail so i can upgrade it. How are your temps under load with the 6850 and i7? What was your reasoning for using the modded bios? Also is your 6850M a 1GB or 2GB card? -
What do you mean with a similar laptop? Any acer with 17.3" 1080p screen? If it doesn't fit it could get quite costly...
- The CPU downclocks to stay under 90°C, so thermal paste will make your system faster. Temp is ~85°C under load but still at 2.2 GHz! Other people will have the same temp but downclocked to 1.8.
- I tried the modded bios to get a Raid 0, didn't work. It was very handy to lower the 100% fan speed temp, so the CPU doesn't downclock too fast.
- It's the 1GB version. -
I would be surprised if Acer actually shipped anything with a 1080p 17" screen. You will probably have to find 17" screens and compare location and size of connectors on the back to the stock one in your laptop.
All things considered i guess that's actually not that bad. With stock paste my i5-2430M would hit 85C under load fairly easily. After repasting my i5 temps are almost always under 80C. Hopefully with some decent thermal paste i can prevent throttling on the i7, we shall see!
