Hey first post on notebookreview :D

I've had my acer aspire 6930 for a while and its great but i'd like to give it a better graphics card so I can play better games and put the settings up on other games (like Company of Heroes). My 6930 has the standard intel 4 series express chipset graphics :( and i want to upgrade to any decent Nvidia mobile even if its just the 9600m gs like in the 6930g's GPU Is this possible?

Looked at another thread where a 6930g had its GPU replaced and my laptop has the same mounting platform/bracket thing but it doesn't have the (sorry bit of a notebook hardware noob) the white thing that the GPU would have to plug into to actually work with the motherboard.

heres my specs and I attached a photo of the motherboard where the GPU would go... i think

    cheers

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (originally vista premium but upgraded)
    Processor: 2.00ghz Intel Core 2 Duo p7530
    Ram: 3.00 gb ddr2
Graphics: 64mb dedicated intel mobile 4 series express chipset (total 1638mb? shared memory)
WEI: 3.3 because of poor graphics other 3 scores are 5.5, 5.5 and 5.9

Unless you buy a connector and solder it on, I don't see how you could upgrade:
    MXM Connectors

Even if you solder the connector onto the motherboard it still might not work.

    thanks for the reply,
yeh i guess don't think I'd trust myself to solder on a MXM connector.
would it be easier to replace the whole mother board with a 6930G one?
That'd probably be less hassle and less chance of screwing up the m'board

Yes it would probably be less hassle, but it's probably not going to be cheap.

You might want to consider selling the notebook and buying a new one.

For around $800 you can get a notebook with a decent GPU and still get good battery life (optimus):

Doesn't sound possible thanks for your help... I guess I'll just save up and buy a good laptop at the end of the year
