Alright so I just bought an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 cpu from eBay and want to replace my sempron with this processor. I know that the acer aspire 5050 is identitcal to my laptop just with the Turion and not the sempron.
But the Turion that comes with the acer aspire 5050 has the
part#: TMDTL56HAX5CT and this means that this cpu is of 0.09 micron SOI manufacturing process with a Thermal Design Power of 33W.
Now the cpu I purchased has the part #: TMDTL56HAX5DC and this is with 0.065 micron SOI manufacturing process with a thermal design power of 31W.

So my question is: Will this cpu work with my laptop?

IF it is an S1 socket, and your bios supports a Turion X2 it should work. Are you sure the cooling system is the same a the 5050? if it's not, that's where an issue might arise the Turions use more power than semprons.

You shouldn't have any problems; as yuio said as long as the 3050 uses socket s1. The 5050 uses the same BIOS as the 3050 so there is a good chance your mainboard will accept the turion.

The 65nm TL-56 is one of the newer generation turion x2s so they draw less power than the older 90nm turion x2s so nothing to worry about there.

Thanks for your answers yuio and Evolution. Yup the mainboard on the 3050 is socket s1, also would I have to format my hard drive and reinstall windows after installing the new cpu?

You will need to re-install windows definitely but there is no need to do a complete hard drive format.
