    Hi guys,

Really desperate for some help here as I'm at a total loss and losing all hope.

I have an Acer Aspire 7535g running Vista 32-bit.

The laptop comes with two graphics cards, ATI Radeon 3200 and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570.

I bought an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 from Meaker, to upgrade my graphics. The installation was okay and the card has been put into my laptop without any problems.

I booted my laptop and installed the latest ATI Catalyst Control Centre, and all was okay for about 5 minutes. Straight away I got an error:

"Catalyst Control Centre: Monitoring program has stopped working".

I clicked ok to close it, then went to restart CCC. This time an error:

"Catalyst Control Centre: Host application has stopped working".

At this point I restarted my machine, and was greeted by 800x600 resolution. My graphics drivers had been uninstalled (when I checked device manager the cards were both marked as Standard VGA).

Okay, so I have done some research and done everything I can think of. Completely removed all ATI hardware, reinstalled it maybe 10 times now. I've tried using older versions of CCC and get the same error each time.

I reinstalled windows, completely fresh and downloaded all drivers again and the same happened right away (the CCC errors, and dissapearing drivers with rebooting).

Now when I boot my laptop, it does load in 1600x900 resolution, but the screen goes black after 10 seconds and does not come back on. I'm currently stuck without being able to use the laptop.

As I said I've tried everything, and now can not use it to try anything else.

Im losing my patience with it, and strongly considering opening it up and putting the old GPU back in, although I'm not even sure this will fix the problem. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as all the microsoft and other tech forums can only suggest reinstalling or updating drivers- nothing of any use as I have done these steps!

Thank you and good night for now!!
    Nayfeee

Does plugging an external monitor work? Try that, it might be a vBios problem related to display outputs.

My normal laptop monitor is working now, just in 800x600 as I have completely removed all and any ATI software and drivers.

The problem I have is as soon as I install the Catalyst Control Centre, or the ATI Performance software - things go south.

Whilst installing I get "Catalyst Control Center: Monitoring program has stopped working". Then once installed after reboot I get "Catalyst Control Center: Host Service has stopped working" and my resolution reverts to 800x600 and puts me back at square one.

Why can't I just download drivers for the 5730, and not have any of the other ATI crap?!

    :D

Edit: If I plug my TV in via HDMI nothing happens, but without the Control Center I can't "tell" it to put a display on there, so I don't know what to do.

Also when I try to install and use Driver Sweeper - I get " Driver Sweeper has stopped working "

Could this be something else, or could it be caused by the same problem as my gpu driver issues?

Uninstall CCC, then install .NET Framework. I'm not too sure which version CCC uses so just install those below. If you've already installed them before, uninstall all of them before reinstalling.

    .NET Framework 3.0
    .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
    .NET Framework 4

After installing these, run Windows Update and download any updates for .NET Framework. Restart again and then try installing CCC.

Thanks, I will try that. I already have 3.5 so I will uninstall that.

I'll remove CCC, remove 3.5. - Then install 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 and try win update and CCC again.

I'll be back to say how I got on soon.

MEh this is a joke lol. I also posted on AMD forums and a guy said that the AMD provided drivers will not work for my laptop as it is a switchable graphics enabled laptop with vista.

Also the drivers on Acer's website predate the hd5730, so wont support it as far as I understand. Basically it looks like I'm stuck??? Surely this cant be as complicated or difficult as it seems.

This is hard to understand (for me). As I understand it, you have 2 cards, a 5730 and a 3200, former is dedicated and latter is integrated, and you want to install the driver for that. The only way I can think of is to get the driver package from Acer for your laptop and see if it works. If it works then you're home free. If it doesn't then you might have to remove the 5730 for your computer to function properly :(

Hmz, the only machines I can see that use a 5/6 series card and switch-able graphics only have windows 7 drivers listed :/

You might have more luck under windows 7, if you are still having issues then let me know.

All the switch-able machines I have used have had hard bios switches which let you choose.

Which machines use those cards with switchable graphics? Would it be worth trying the windows 7 drivers on vista?

Why not try I suppose, 7540g had both the 4570 and 5650, could also try the 5551g drivers.

The top and bottom of it looks like I can't get this card to work without getting Win7, which I can't afford to buy right now. Gutted, looks like I'm back to my crappy old graphics.

I've even tried going back to XP and tried a load of different drivers there, really can't think of what to do that will work.

Gonna take the card out tomorrow whilst at work as right now I can't do much on my laptop. I'd take it out now but my thermal paste is in my desk drawer. ;(

You can use win7 for free.

Unlike other versions of windows, it does not have a 30 day period and then prevent login. (not talking about pirating here)

You can download the disc image somewhere from Microsoft.com and just burn it to a DVD and install it.

Well I'm sure there are some features you can't access but yes, I'm totally sure.

All windows media is free and can be found on microsoft.com. This allows you to install it on your computer, you just don't get a free activation key of course. :)

Its all legal and fine as long as you don't go looking for a keygen:

Mine wanted a key, but before you buy windows 7 it's worth giving it a try, if you have a spare HDD to put it on to test it would be even better.

Windows is not free and that link is assuming you *have* a key to activate Windows. You're required to activate Windows within 30 days of installing it.

So the windows 7 upgrade wont help either. I spoke to Acer today who basically advised if ATI do not provide something that works, the card will not work in the pc.

Looks like I might have a HD 5730 for sale if anyone's interested? Unless someone can suggest something else to try before I give up :p

The switchable graphics in most laptops are between a dedicated ATi card and the integrated Intel card, not a integrated ATi card and I don't know where to find drivers for this configuration. You could try looking for laptops with similar configurations and using their drivers, it should work.

Hii Too, I have tried that with a few different models, in a few different OS and none work, Acer confirmed that it is highly unlikely any of their drivers will work :(

Just in the process of installing my old HD 4570 card -if anybody is interested in the HD5730 I'll let it go for what I paid for it, PM me.

Hmz, not sure I like driver cleaner, tends to cause more issues than it solves.

Have you tried manually installing the driver from the driver package?

If anyone can think of anything it would be much appreciated as I have tried everything.

Even on a fresh install of Vista the driver provided by Acer will not work. I have used these exact Vista DVD and drivers about 3 months ago and had no problems whatsoever - what could have changed between now and then? I literally cannot think of anything else to try.

I have removed and reinstalled/updated .NET frameworks to 4.0, tried the same with Visual C++.

I'm not sure why they've singled me out then. I've been running an unactivated version of win7 for like, a year, its a totally original disc with no pirating or illegal additions.

I didn't say win7 was free, I said the physical media is not something you have to pay for, unless you think there is a reason to argue the 50 cents of the price of retail windows goes to the cost of creating the actual disc image.

Rather than fresh installing it, what about the recovery disks generated from the factory install?
